First, you get it.

The direct links I've seen aren't working, or are to a very-low-quality file (where someone basically filmed their TV). But this page at slashdot.org has BitTorrent links to a very-good-quality .avi file. It only took me five minutes or so to download it on broadband; lots of people have it up.

Got it? Good. Discuss.

I've been reserving judgement on episodes 1 & 2 because I feel that the trilogy's total impact should be judged as a whole. In fact, since Episode 2 came out, I've been of the opinion that the entire saga- The Phantom Menace through Return of the Jedi- rests on Episode 3. If Episode 3 is good, the saga works. If Episode 3 sucks, it could kill the entire saga.

Based on trailers, it seems that Lucas might be aware of how important this movie is to the whole. It looks like they may have pulled this off. This might work.

I was moved almost to the point of tears when I watched this trailer[1]. Not because it was so emotionally moving (it was), but because of relief that it might... not... suck. I want Star Wars to be what it was for me when I first saw it. I want to want all the movies on DVD.

I have a good feeling about this.

Fortunately, the strength of the whole does NOT rest on the strength of the titles. :-)

"The Phantom Menace"? "Attack Of The Clones"?

"Star Wars - Episode Two: George Spent All The Money On Special Effects And Had Nothing Left Over For A Good Title"

Ok. I'm done. ;)

No sadder or stranger than I, pal. I'm not sure, by the way, but... was there a conspicuous absence of Jar Jar?

JAR JAR: Meesa be good Sith candidate for you, Massa Palpatine! *doubled snap-hiss* *pose* *stumble*

PALPATINE: ARRGH! MY ARM!! You clumsy, stupid LIZARD! *force lighting* *force lighting* *force lighting*

JAR JAR: *dies*

I don't know. This could work...

If the gods are benign, Jar Jar will not be given much screen time in Ep3.

This weekend, I must pull out my copy of the excellent war game Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit. It's a good game on it's own, but the fact that the Gungan cannon fodder miniatures all look like Jar Jar is a major bonus. I can watch him die again and again and again...

The direct link on AOL worked OK. Yup, I was really working hard today if I had time to mess with that on the office account. [grin of smugness]

The name-lameness of the Episode 1-3 trilogy seems somehow to follow the style of titles in Republic serials of the 40's, don't you think?
