"Bewitched" Trailer

Normally, I look upon theatrical movies based on TV series with all the enthusiasm one reserves for fruit-canning competitions. I mean, the track record is just so good. Let's see: Batman the Movie, Star Trek 2... ah-yup.

However, the full trailer for Bewitched, starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman, has been released. And damn if it don't look at least a little interesting.

(Although someone really ought to tell Nicole that she's not actually twitching her nose, just her upper lip.)

I probably wouldn't have noticed the liptwitching if you hadn't pointed it out. Now it's going to bug me for the REST OF MY LIFE. ;)

I'm actually interested in seeing this one, because it's a take on the retooled-tv-show genre I haven't seen before. Will Ferrell is kind of hit or miss with me, but this one might actually work... after all, it's not like anyone noticed when they swapped Darrens the first time. ;-)

Is Will Farrell a powerful enough actor to carry the legacy laid down by Dick Sargent and Dick York? They needed to bring in a high-caliber actor who is also a Dick.

Hrmm.. Looks like it COULD be fun.. I reserve judgement. Normally, I HATE Wil Ferrel but I LOVE Nicole Kidman, so we'll have to see.

It's certainly an interesting take on the show.

To the nose twitch. It was something that the late lucious Elizabeth Montgomery added herself to the character, a strange childhood talent of hers.

Ok, yes, I'd at least get it from NetFlix. Mainly cause Nicole Kidman looks like she'll be really fun in the role, I rather like the spin they gave it (thank god it isn't just another "updating" of the show) and besides, I can just SEE Shirlie McLean as Endora!!

OK, it looks like a cute new take on the concept and I may actually go to see it. (The last movie I saw in a theatre was probably The Matrix III: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.)

I had a boyhood crush on Elizabeth Montgomery, so this bothered me initially, till I -saw- Kidman in a scene. I met Ms. Montgomery a couple of times when we used the same dog groomer, and she was as pleasant and charming and unassuming as you could hope for. I actually cried when she died.

I'm still not too pleased with the concept; it's like messing with Star Trek and turning it into Enterprise.

I really think I'd have preferred the first choice for "Darren" -- Jim Carrey. I think he'd have been a fine heir to Dick York. Shirley MacLaine, on the other hand, is a bloody brilliant choice for Endora.

Hee! It looks like fun. I'm also glad for the unusual meta-take on it. Much more interesting than if they'd just done a straightforward "we're telling the story of Bewitched... again."

And Kidman does look awfully cute in the role. I wonder if she'll do Montgomery's other trademark, the sort of caught-in-the-act "well...?" (Hard to convey in text, but my Dad and I ended up using it all the time.)

Is your comment about Batman and Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan supposed to imply that those are the only two good examples you can come up with, or that those are examples of horrendous failures? Because I think those are both pretty good films.

Oh, I'm a big fan of both films. There are some TV-to-big-screen movies which have some decent scenes, but those are the only two I can think of that pretty much work all the way through.

Now, you want bad, so bad that I leave finding the link as an exercise for the maso- er, student... go check out the trailer for The Honeymooners with Cedric the "Entertainer".
