Home again, home again, jiggety jig. And... frickin' wow.

Even though I ended up being extremely tired through most of it (my own fault, I had that durn preview CD-R to finish, but it was worth it), this year's MarCon was a blast and a half. The list of Many, Many Thanks To... is long, and certainly incomplete:
  • Con Chair Kim Williams, Filk Coordinator Trace Hagemann, Guest Liaison Gloria Can'trememberherlastname, Melissa Glasser and her husband Dan, and everyone else with the con and with the hotel
  • Larry Niven and Steve Jackson, for their kindness and friendship
  • Animal X, for advanced costume wizardry and just deigning to breathe around us heterosexual males
  • all of you who were there at the party Friday, at the concert and open filk Saturday
  • the exquisite Judy Miller, who interpreted my concert wonderfully in American Sign Language, and only got messed up once briefly during "Five Years" (I loff dooink dat to herr)
  • my darlings [livejournal.com profile] dubheach and [livejournal.com profile] sylverwolfe and [livejournal.com profile] janet_coburn and [livejournal.com profile] surakofb5 and [livejournal.com profile] braider and Juanita and Barry & Sally and Bill & Brenda and Moonwolf and John and Kevin for god's sake Dockery and Christy & Pat (& George & Grant) and Chris and Ray and Larry & Sally and Yonni and [livejournal.com profile] billroper and [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and so many others (and apologies to the ones I didn't get to speak to, but I will catch you next time, I promise)
  • The Great Luke Ski, who joined me onstage for "Cthulhu Fthagn"
  • Ookla the Mok, for general kewlness and for the great signage at the dealer's room table we shared (and Debbie and Kelly, who helped us at the table)
  • Fandom in general and MarCon in particular, just for being the kind of place where, as [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear put it, "you can see a moon rock and then go ten feet and see the Batmobile"
  • [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear and Anne, who keep me sane, who shared with me one of the biggest weekends of my life
And the very bestest part of all was that so many of my friends were there. My people, my tribe, my family.

I love the hell out of you all.

We were but ships passing in the night, and in the morning, and in the mid- to late-ish afternoon (what with your open filk opposite the Dorsai circle, and our shore leave party opposite your CD release bash, and dealers' hours vs. concerts, etc), but it's always good to see you. Perhaps we'll fare better at Duckon :)

*hugs*

Soitenly hope so. I really wanted to get to the Dorsai sing, but it just didn't work out. Did the party go okay?

Thank you. I thought so too, but that could have been my bias. We did receive quite a few compliments, though, on everything from the nice selection of beers chosen by [livejournal.com profile] scs_11, to the the varietal chocolate tasting put together by [livejournal.com profile] markbernstein, to my 'Dr. Bob's Chocolate Seizure Brownies' and 'I Think This Needs More Chocolate -- I Can Still Taste Cookie' chocolate chip cookies.

I adore the name of that cooki- er, chocolate delivery system. And, Duck is gonna be one hell of a music party this year, innit? I can't wait.

Glad you had fun. Want to talk to you about Duck at some point. Let me know if you're not busy on Wednesday.

Phone was low on battery and I didn't have the charger with me. I'll call you this afternoon when there's some brain cells in attendance. :)

No, thank YOU Mr. Acavanoooo...

Thank YOU so much for your unending graciousness and generosity towards me (and Ookla). Because of you, I don't need to spend the next 3 days drawing caricatures for tips at Ed Debevic's in Chicago in order to get my half of the deposit and first month's rent on the new house I'm moving into with my sister on Wednesday. You've given me time to relax and less tress, which is something I've needed badly lately. So thank you, thank you, thank you again.

By the way, if you get a moment between now and DucKon, please check your merch & table supplies from the weekend for a white plastic bag that contains about 6 "Carpe Dementia" t-shirts. They went missing, so I'm hoping somehow you accidentally have them, and that they didn't walk off with anybody else. Also, I still owe you $20 for the "Saving Star Wars" DVD, which I'll pay you at DucKon, if that's okay. Will the complete version of 24HCD2 be ready for DucKon? Just curious.

Again, eternal thanks.

PS: The first person who posts here correctly identifying the film from which my Subject line came from will be sent a free copy of my "May The Farce Be With You" Star Wars comedy compilation CD. >:)

Actually, I think you also had Judly Miller flummoxed briefly when you did "Leon Redbone Does Gilbert & Sullivan." She recovered nicely, though, and much sooner than I did.

it's always so wonderful to get to spend time with you. i'm still working on getting funding from local businesses for conglom, and will definitely keep you posted on how that goes.
this marcon really was the fannish family reunion. i got to meet some people in person who i'd previously only known online, like [livejournal.com profile] janet_coburn and [livejournal.com profile] braider and [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear, and i got to spend time with my true good friends i don't get to see nearly often enough, like you and [livejournal.com profile] lukeski and my evil twin [livejournal.com profile] surakofb5. to top it off, you brought tears to my eyes not only when you sprung "a boy and his frog" on an unsuspecting audience, but also when you referred to us all as your family, because that sense of togetherness and belonging is one that i feel so rarely in my life. it's really only when i'm with my friends that i feel like i actually fit in this world. you helped solidify that sense of belonging for me this weekend, and i thank you for it.

I'm pretty sure the Childs-Heltons were the first ones to put it so succinctly, but the point has been there for the longest time: you have two families -- the one you're born with, and the one you acquire. (It's really great when there's some overlap. -- for instance, I'd love to get my film-freak sister and her Star Wars nut husband to a real con.)

We all go to cons for a lot of the same reasosn. It's kinda like Spider Robinson said, more or less, in The Callahan Touch: First thing someone who's weird needs is a place where they don't make you feel weird.

Maybe that's why the post-con depression is hitting me so hard. Marcon is *home* for me. This is my family, the people who I really fit in with. And now it's over and I have to go back to the real world where my friends hardly ever have time to get together because we're all so busy. I miss everyone. All of you are so wonderful.

It was great to see you again and get all those hugs in person. The weekend was chaotic for me, since this is my hometown con and literally everyone was there, but it was worth it. Your Saturday concert was amazing. And thank you so much for your guest appearance at the Buffy Sing-Along on Saturday night! *hugs*

I'm still exhausted, so I'm going to go get (even more) sleep now.

Well that's interesting, two names I haven't though of in years - Animal X (I went on a picnic with her my last day in California before flying back to Michigan. With Alan Theisen. I got sucked into a rip tide and had to shower and change at his place of work. I remember that Animal X wore black leather and lace and looked gorgeous as always.) And Kevin Dockery. Knew him from my O of L days. Went on one date with him. It was... an interesting combination as you can imagine - me: total peacnick hippie chic type and him: well - you know. ;-)

I miss Marcon. I miss the midwest. Glad you had fun! Hugs

Yep yep yep. Exhausting, which I kind of expected, but damn it was literally The Big One for me, even more so than the Filk Hall of Fame (which I'm still twitching about, hee hee hee). If I never receive any other honor in fandom again, that's okay, because I have been blessed with the recognition of my friends, my cohorts, and the four cons (MarCon, OVFF, ConClave later this year, and MillenniCon) where I've done all my best stuff.

And I get to see you again at Duck! That's gonna kick ass.

Re: Dock -- good lord. I can't even fathom him going out with you. I mean, I know why he'd want to -- same reasons we all did, you glorious wench, you, hubba hubba....

Hee. I adore you. Believe me, I needed that right now. I've gained back all of the 54 pounds I lost when we were on the road. Grad school, combined with other stressors apparently is not good for me, that combined with not being able to make any of the WW meetings. Oy. Oh well. I'll do it again but it sure is annoying. sigh... and I hardly am feeling glorious. I shall try to get regular "hubba hubba" fixes at Duckcon from you! Grin.

And we all love the hell out of you. The warmth at your concert was incredible -- both coming from and going to you. I've never felt anything like it.

Of course, this now means I need to get to as many of your concerts as possible to get another fix. (Didn't know you were addictive, did you?)

Hugs
