Today is a very, very, very sad day. Da Bear has lost one of his heroes.

Paul Winchell, one of America's best-loved ventriloquists and voice actors, has passed away at the age of 82. He created Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smiff; he worked game shows for decades. And he did lots and lots of voice work -- five voices in particular.

Fleegle, the leader of the Banana Splits.

Clyde, the leader of the Anthill Mob.

Dick Dastardly.

Gargamel.

Well, and he also denied the existence of his own daughter, a funny and talented woman with a great website full of hysterical audio material. Paul Winchell did incredible work and will always be a part of my childhood, but he was a really fucked-up guy personally. Apparently he didn't even want April told when he died, but someone did anyway.
