Wow. Haven't read the Declaration in full in many years. It is frighteningly relevant today. I wonder if our own mad king George has ever actually read it himself.
As always, I'm moved by the audacity of that document. At this distance, it can seem like some dusty old piece of parchment, just another fact to be remembered in history class. But those 56 guys who signed it were basically agreeing to be hanged if the revolution failed, which was a very real possibility -- in fact, it was the most probable outcome. How many contemporary senators or congressmen have that kind of balls?
