Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] thepiercedrose: You can watch and listen to pretty much everything from the Live 8 benefit concerts (at least, the ones in London, Philadelphia, Toronto, Berlin, Paris, and Rome). Two caveats: You have to download AOL's relatively benign music player software, and it doesn't work for Firefox.

Annie Lennox singing "Sweet Dreams" is a do-not-miss.

Thanks for letting me know it doesn't work on Firefox. Means I must open IE when I have time to pull it all down.

I was on AOLMusic on Sat evening and the Live8 "rebroadcasts" played as a standard embedded Windoze media stream. Nothing special to run.

It ran in firefox, but broke often.

IE did run better, but I assumed this was a MS issue, not an AOL issue.

...

Or have they changed the feed type?

Looks that way. It's going through their player software now, and that's likely the problem.

I heard a very brief snippet of Green Day doing "We Are The Champions" this morning, and I MUST have it. Something for me to do tomorrow after work, looks like....

Outside of MTV HORRRRRRIBLE coverage, there were moments that were very cool at Live8

Did enjoy McCartney/U2's cover of "Sgt Pepper". According to Sir Paul, Geldorf BEGGED him to open the show with it. Paul had never performed it live before. I would have loved it if they could have gotten Ringo to sing the "Billy Shears" part.

And damn, I love how Anne Lennox's voice has gotten lower over the year and just sound better...

Going through and looking at a few of 'em, I listened to Gordon Lightfoot. He looks good, but it seems to me that his voice has lost a good deal of its power and smoothness to that illness the other year. Lots of presence still, though.

AOL is a better service these days than it's ever been, which is why I keep it despite having my own server and 10 domains.

AOL users are still 97% vegetable matter, though.
