Been There, Done That
Aug. 5th, 2005 10:10 amIn the spirit of S. John Ross's Big List of RPG Plots, Peter Anspach's Evil Overlord List, and Jon VanSickle & Brian McGinty's Evil Henchman's Guide, here's John's Grand List of Overused Science Fiction Cliches.

Date: 2005-08-05 03:24 pm (UTC)It's an SF list, not fantasy, but...
Date: 2005-08-05 03:56 pm (UTC)"Heroes who are so emotionally stunted that they don't care about close friends/relatives that die as long as they complete some mission."
Sirius who?
"Disembodied live brains living in tanks."
OotP!
"Whiz kids."
*cough*
"Superheroes wear primary colors (red, blue, and yellow)."
"Supervillains wear secondary colors (green, purple, and orange)."
What are the House colors again? *bats eyelashes*
"Persons of different species interbreed without difficulty."
Um, like half-giants?
"The death of the Bad Guy involves a long fall."
I suppose that depends on your opinion of Dumbledore...
I'm sure I missed a few.

Date: 2005-08-05 04:03 pm (UTC)Sirius who?
Tut, tut. We all saw Harry suffer when he realized that he had caused Sirius' death (having failed at least three ways to prevent it).
"Superheroes wear primary colors (red, blue, and yellow)."
"Supervillains wear secondary colors (green, purple, and orange)."

Blue and bronze. And yours? ;-)
Re: It's an SF list, not fantasy, but...
Date: 2005-08-05 04:13 pm (UTC)And some three weeks later he'd shed his supposed anguish like a used condom.
But continuity (emotional or plotwise) is hard. Like maths.
Re: It's an SF list, not fantasy, but...
Date: 2005-08-05 04:38 pm (UTC)Oh, my. Barbie Potter. (Or is that Barbie Rowling?) But in the event, she prefers GI Joe's wand to Ken's... :-D
(I could make a case that Harry really hasn't shed his anguish, nor worked through it properly, but suppressed it -- which could -- should -- will, I hope -- come out at an inconvenient time later, to be exploited against him. I can see the case you'd make, too, for the shedding. But it makes for nice snark, eh? :-)

Date: 2005-08-05 04:43 pm (UTC)*sigh* I don't think I've had such a love/hate relationship with TPTB since my time in Xenaverse fandom.
