Thank god. I haven't heard anything about Bob Asprin. matociquala reported that Poppy Z. Brite wanted to ride it out, but that was before the mandatory evacuation order.

Yes, she did, and had posted about it here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/docbrite/276063.html). Haven't heard anything in her LJ since the order was given - my fingers are crossed that she's just busy rounding up what animals she can catch and damning the rental-car agreement.

And I just saw a projected path that would have Katrina head straight my way (mid-TN) after hitting LA. Hoping for the folks south of me, and hoping that the foothills that I live in will blunt the worst of what heads north.

The Weather Channel says that it's gonne be up in the frickin' Great Lakes by Wednesday. Joy. We will be driving through it to Dragon*Con....

As a survivor of Hurricane Floyd (I lived in the flooded zone at the time) Be very careful. This one looks quite deadly. It looks like it will hit here too, though I hope a good bit of the force is gone by that time.

As far as riding it out:
lots of candles and oil lamps
alternate form of cooking, if electric stoves are what you have
board up windows
portable radios
matches
non perishable supplies
batteries!
