Thanks to Steve Jackson's Daily Illuminator for pointing this one out: a blog from a man who is helping to keep the Internet up in New Orleans. Besides having eyewitness accounts of the tales of survival, the carnage, the looting, the awful circumstances that just get worse every hour... it's an unfolding tale of dedication, courage, and sacrifice as they try to keep the lines of communication open in a devastated city. Really, it's amazing stuff.

Tom, the link you gave is flagged as a porn site by whatever database my company uses to filter web traffic. The LJ user account that popefelix gives does work. Just figured I'd pass that word for people trying to follow along from corporate America.

Huh. I was getting it just fine, but I have in fact switched the link to [livejournal.com profile] interdictor's LJ, just to make it easy on everyone.

Supposedly he made it fine -- the Quarter hadn't flooded, at least as of then -- and he was waiting to be rescued. After that, dunno.

I'm just glad George Alec Effinger isn't alive to see whats happened to his poor, beloved home...

If his illnesses hadn't killed him, this would have.

I've been reading this lj for the past couple of days... I'm so shocked at what I'm reading.

Disasters like this either bring out the best or the worst in people... never any middle ground, it seems.
