I predict a fair number of SF fans from the coast heading inland for FenCon in Ft. Worth and just staying there. Someone from the Bujold list seems to be doing just that. Not a bad way to spend your "refugee" days, I'd say.
I'm so happy I don't live in Houston anymore, but I do worry about the friends who still live there. I really like wunderground's weather site. It has stood the test of time. Someone on one of my lists said that her family is stuck there. And there are many still in the Astrodome from Katrina who can't get out. I've also heard that gas is so expensive and scarce that some can't afford to get out. I lived on the SW side of Houston when both Gilbert and Alicia hit. We only got the edge of Gilbert (cat5) and it was as bad as Alicia (cat2). Strange things happen with hurricanes, they stall and occasionally peter out. Actually I think this one will land center on the TX/LA border. It is going to do some major damage. My advice go out and buy gas and pray for the people who are stuck there.
