Esquire Magazine has proclaimed Jessica Biel the sexiest woman alive.

She's not even in my top 100. Maybe not my top 500. Actually, I don't think I'd name her unless someone else brought her up.

Okay, what makes someone sexy to you? Both physical and nonphysical characteristics. In my case, physical definitely would include eyes, smile, ass, and hands, and an inclination towards physical contact (by no means limited to sexual -- that's actually a fairly small part of it); nonphysical would include caring about people more than things, brains, sense of humor, love of fantasy and movies and of course music.

Another reason I would discount her is the fake plastic tits ... I'm not a fan.

For me it's smarts, humor, a great laugh, curves, silliness, big eyes, tolerance.

You pretty much sum it up.

And I'd have to say no over-inflated lips.

Not even CLOSE!

Jessica Alba.. yes. Much hotter, both physically and career wise.

What is sexy, who knows?

Well my husband thinks Jessica Biel is sexy but he's not here to ask him why. I was going to say I thought different things made a man and woman sexy, but I'm arguing with myself here.

A sense of wit and intelligence that can be perceived through the eyes or gestures makes someone sexy. I think that good looks are also a factor, but while there are some people that most people think are good looking the variablity is great about who thinks who is attractive. My girlfriends and I had a discussion on LJ not too long ago about the merits of Orlando Bloom and Johnny Dep.

I also look for different things in each sex. I love a woman's breasts, but a man's rear-end and legs. These things alone don't make them sexy, but they help and these qualities have nothing to do with intelligence.

And then there is voice. I love your voice. There are also a few other men (Michael Longcor, and the lead singer for Crash Test Dummies for example) who I just melt when I hear their voices, especially when singing.

One of the sexiest men I can think of is Sean Connery (not when he was youthful, but NOW). He has the accent, the wit, the charm, the looks...

Is it just me, or did Sean Connery get sexier at 50+ than he was at 35?

What you said :)

Yes, really. For me, characteristics i find sexy about a man include eyes, smile, hands, and an inclination towards physical contact (i'm a very touch-oriented person), caring about people more than things, brains, sense of humor, & love of fantasy, books and music. Of course, a cute butt doesn't hurt either *grin*

this (http://tinyurl.com/83nmm). Model. Actress wannabe. Thin little thing with a pout. Underfed Icon of Impossible Standards du Jour. Someone who wouldn't have anything to do with most of the valuable people in my life because they aren't pretty enough, certainly not emaciated enough. Do you detect a note of bitter annoyance at the recognition this shallow slip of a girl gets because she's perceived to be beautiful? It's probably unfair to her. She may be a lovely person with a wicked wit and a long track record of progressive activism. But all anyone seems to care about is her body. And, bluntly, it's only flesh.

The rest of us Real Wimmin luv you guys who say things like this, did we mention that?
Ahhh, you probably know that already.
Surprisingly, I found that it Takes Brain to Rock My World, Babe.
And a pretty high level of integrity.
You can see that stuff surfacing in the face of those jelly-boned babies getting off at the train stop near the high school.
Or not.
Doesn't even take all that long for that stuff to show in your expressions, in the wear on your face, in how you look at people.
I suspect that's what people are seeing when they like great big bear guys who just come across as heavy duty dense character stuff, solid through and through. Not the fake hysterical macho, you understand.
I'm also ridiculously fond of the little skinny leathery guys who never stop moving and never stop working and never give up and are always busy doin' for others and get bored if they're not thinkin' up new trouble to get into.

She's on a TV show I never had the slightest interest in, and two movies that I'd only heard of by coincidence and have no desire to see. I don't know what they're talking about; she's not "on everybody's radar screen."

All of my criteria for sexiness are based on what someone's like -- how they act, how they think, how they move. Someone can be good-looking based on a still picture or their portrayal of a character, but not sexy. Since I don't watch chat shows (and, if anything, actors are phonier on those than they are when they're in character) I don't know enough about current celebrities to say.

Heh. Radar screen. I feel extremely confident in saying that, in many cases, "sexiness" is based on the agressiveness of one's publicity agent. A couple of years ago, I picked up an issue of FHM which featured it's 100 sexiest women in the world; nearly all of them had a movie coming out. I got the next years, and there wasn't much overlap, except... they nearly all had a movie coming out. At which point I stopped buying FHM, Stuff, Maxim, and all the rest, because if I really need those pics, I'm one Google away, y'know...?

And, re: Biel very specifically -- is there anyone out there who really thinks she's sexier than, for instance, Angelina Jolie? Kiera Knightley? Catherine Zeta-Jones?

Only when she looks like she did in "Bridget Jones' Diary". When she's put on extra weight. Otherwise, she looks emaciated, like she did in "Chicago".

I must agree. She was such a stick in Chicago, which was otherwise such a great movie -- not least of which because of the luciously abundant Queen Latifah.

As might be apparent, I tend to prefer women who actually look like, y'know, women and not little boys. That means hips. Breasts. An ass. A stomach that looks like it's seen a meal in recent memory. But the sexiest thing of all is confidence -- another reason Latifah's musical number always makes me swoon. A sense of humor, or at least a tolerance for mine, is a plus.

(My definitely-doesn't-look-like-a-little-boy wife is reading over my shoulder and smirking.)

Oh yeah... Queen Latifah. <drool...>

And confidence is a great aphrodisiac. But that proves how good an actor she is... I saw an interview with her in which she said that she was VERY uncomfortable and nervous when they first put her in that dress. In fact, I think the quote was "Where did THOSE come from?"

And my wife (to whom I just described this exchange, and who also doesn't look like a little boy) entirely agrees with me.

That is a very cogent hypothesis. Considering how ridiculous product placement and payola are getting, it wouldn't surprise me if the entire article was ultimately a paid advertisement by the winners' agents.

I had to Google her to get a good idea of what she looks like. She can be very pretty in posed studio shots with her hair up; otherwise, she just looks like a typical interchangeable WB Drama chick. Certainly not the sexiest woman in Hollywood; quite possibly not the sexiest woman in Kankakee.

I don't know why, but for some reason, Catherine Zeta-Jones hasn't done anything for me since the first Zorro movie. I thought she was amazingly beautiful in that one, but everything I've seen her in since has left me cold.

Jennifer Connelly, for instance, does a lot more for me than Jessica Biel. But then, my type tends to be curvy brunettes.

Kiera Knightly, Jenna Elfman, and Julia Stiles, however, are actresses I find attrative who don't fit that mold. And I've determined that it's because they've all got beautiful smiles. A good smile will go much further for me than nearly anything else physical.

Big ten-four on Connelly, but she's gone so anorexic the past few years.

I thought Zeta-Jones was amazingly gorgeous in most things I've seen her in, but particularly Zorro and Intolerable Cruelty.

And utter agreement on everyone re: Queen Latifah. Mmmm.

sexy = smell, if they don't smell "right" its over before it starts, otherwise I have been told my type seems to be slightly overweight techiegeeks, with facial hair, longer head hair is also a bonus, some one who is comfy to cuddle on is also a bonus.

On a personality level, I like people who have a good sense of humor, who excel at something that I can admire, who are smart, and who share interests with me.

Sexy to me....voice plays a big role, as does posture and attitude. The voice must be good to listen to, posture must be upright but just slightly relaxed. Attitude - welcoming, playful, friendly but not too-friendly, mildly confident (not bash-my-teeth-out-with-his-confidence style)...

Physical: Curly hair is usually present, but not always, and often it's dark brown. Arms are muscular, but not muscle-bound - the sort of muscle that comes from *using* them, especially smaller muscle groups (musicians, swordsmen, etc.) Often, but not always, my taste swings towards the stockier side.

Non-physical: lively wit, preferably without the desperate need to point out how witty he is, good manners but a joy in stepping over the line every once in awhile, a sense of integrity, a caring attitude towards his friends and/or family, a bit of showmanship but ONLY if he is able to turn off the show and just be an everyday person, a source of ideas and a willingness to go along with the ideas of others as well....

Some of this goes beyond "what makes sexy" and trails into "what I'm actually looking for".

I find that sexiness is all a matter of attitude. I will freely admit that I am a short dumpy grey haired bespectacled fat broad. But, because I have self confidence, a healthy attitude (most of the time) and a fast wit, I am rarely without people to flirt with. Lucky for me, my husband doesnt mind me flirting, cause he knows where I sleep ;)

If I had a time machine, my first stop on the pouncing-through-history ride would be Cab Calloway. I think he would have been fabulous in the sack just because of how he moved. I'm not so much into the greasy-30s-hair thing, but the moves and the charm might be enough to counterbalance it. Grace is so incredibly sexy. Smelling good would be another factor - and I refuse to believe someone that elegant would smell bad. :)

Speaking as a lesbian (which means I've had plenty of time in showers to compare woman-flesh, to put it crudely), the current SEXIEST woman alive, in my rather easily given out opinion, is Ms Morgan Webb -- the female half of the hosts of X-Play from TechTV / G4TV

She's a successful, beautiful, mid-20's, gorgeous, geeky, shapely, intelligent, healthy, sarcastic, independent woman of the 21st century

All these things make her sexy to me
  • Successful - gone is the need for a woman to be needful of someone to take care of her, she takes care of herself
  • Beautiful - a woman that doesn't have "classic" looks, and instead has her own look and style that compliments her
  • Mid-20's - y'know, I never really thought, even when I was younger, that any woman was attractive before age 25... they were too much like the harpys I went to high school with
  • Gorgeous - a woman that is of non-standard body type is wonderful. Tall, with some muscle and flesh, while still being graceful is enough to make me wild
  • Geeky - girls not into the standard "girly" interests, yet not into the standard boy-type stuff either... that leaves Geekdom. Rar
  • Shapely - I know I know... it's giving into popular culture to want a girl that, well, looks like a girl... but I'm not saying tiny, petite, 40 pound waifs... I'm saying a girl with curves... some meat on those bones. Too skinny makes me just wanna cook and feed them
  • Intelligent - ability not just to converse, but debate, disagree without name-calling, and follow logical progression
  • Healthy - everyone needs to be health conscious, and someone who's paying attention without becoming obsessed about it... that's my girl
  • Sarcastic - attitude, gotta have it. Intelligence without sass is boring
  • Independent - Kinda tied to that first one... a girl who's her OWN woman, and doesn't need to be "with" someone to be validated

Yeah, all that describes Morgan Webb. She's the one, definitive sexiness and hotness
