Telltale Games has a free download of its new adventure game based on Jeff Smith's award-winning graphic novel Bone. If you like it, you can unlock the full game for $19.99.

How do you know you can trust these guys to do an adventure game? Because they used to do 'em for LucasArts, until LA went all actiony. Their pedigree includes Grim Fandango, Sam & Max Hit The Road, and the Monkey Island games.

(A little technical foofrah: The "download" is... a downloader program. The actual game program that it downloads is about 58 MB. And the "playable demo" part isn't very long -- as in, possibly as little as five minutes. But it does give a flavor for the game.)

If they did Monkey Island, I already love 'em. ^_^

A friend of mine, Loren Cox, worked on some of the animation for that one. He was among the big batch of layoffs at LucasArts last year. They had him finish up Republic Commando before he left. Everyone buy Boneville, support my friend. :-)

I haven't played past the end of the downloadable demo yet. But I will say that it's got the flavor of the Lucasarts adventures so far.

As well as a very nice general vibe of the comic. Adventure games have been few and far between lately, and I enjoy their leisurely pace.

Well, okay, maybe the running from the locusts part wasn't that leisurely.

Oh hey, me and [livejournal.com profile] tfabris were just talking about this the other day. I adored Grim Fandango so much that I played through the whole thing twice. I wish desperately that they'd do a sequel specifically to that...

I just finished Bone last night. Kept me up past my bedtime, it did. Definitely gonna try the game out...

I saw some clips from it on gametrailers.com

That was the absolute WORST delivery I've ever heard of "Stupid, stupid rat-creatures!" I've EVER heard!

I'll pass. I have greater respect for the art of voice-acting than THAT!
