Yeah. I'm so glad we now have impact-resistant windows now. This will be the ... seventh? ... hurricane to hit Florida in the last 15 months.
Incidentally, Hurricane Stan is responsible for more deaths this year than Katrina. But because it didn't affect the U.S., we focus on Katrina (which was certainly bad enough!).
I'm not thrilled to death about any of my friends staying in Florida at all. At least most of them have geared up since the beginning of the Season with shutters, etc. But still... OK I live in Shakey-Town but we don't get really major hits more than once a decade or so. You choose your home and live with the consequences, is the moral of that story.
It strikes me that it would be reasonable to take the hurricanes as a message from Someone to move out of Florida before the icecaps melt, assuming one were of a bent to believe that events in life are messages from Someone. Too bad most of the people of such a bent also believe that global warming is a hoax concocted by evil scientists who want to deprive the oil companies of their profitsAmerican people of their rightful lifestyle.
There seems to be a long-term hurricane cycle. We were in the down part of the cycle for 40 years or so, during which we built up all sorts of land along the Gulf coast and Florida's Atlantic coast. Now that we're in an active part of the cycle again, we're discovering the downsides of building in those locations.
