In case you haven't seen it. It has a little behind-the-scenes footage as well.

I really hope the movie isn't going stink on ice, but then I remember the source material, and I remember the movie of Half Blood Prince, where Harry & Ginny and Ron & Hermione showed no chemistry at all, and I just don't know.

Thoughts?

Personally, I'm curious as to how they're going to justify having split the final book into two movies. Despite the book's length, there were significant stretches where nothing really happened. I don't hold out a lot of hope for the movies being more than just "Ooooh, shiney" in terms of my reaction.

Consider what they did with Movie #4: Selected Scenes from "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Entire chapters ripped out leaving gigantic plot holes in the movie, but extra footage of the battle with the Hungarian Horntail.

I expect the bulk of the last movies will consist of Epic depictions of the flight from Privet Drive, the flight from the wedding, the flight from the Ministry, the flight from Malfoy Mansion, the flight from Gringotts, and the Ultimate Battle of Ultimate Destiny at Hogwarts, held together with little snippets, with maybe a long and verklempt happy ending with a soaring musical score, and Snape's memories presented in 30 seconds or less, without the bunnies.

My guess is, the first movie will end with the locket business on a "One down, now what do we do?" sort of note.

That was kind of my guess as well--there are enough moments (albeit brief ones) of OMG DESTRUCTION in the novel that they could conceivably stretch them into two movies. Although it worries me that a good portion of what we saw in the link was footage of the kids running through the forest... O.o

Reportedly, it's going to end after the trio leave Luna's house, and are captured by the Snatchers.

Don't forget the funeral. They left that out of HBP, so it'll prolly kick off DH1.

They never filmed Dumbledore's funeral, from what I understand. So I'm assuming that Harry/Ginny's break-up will happen at the Burrow, which I'm assuming will be rebuilt before the wedding, which WAS filmed.

Exactly what I was thinking. Really no reason to split it like that, except to make more money. Oh, wait... I guess they would consider that a very good reason.

Oh wow!

Now I've not seen Harry Potter 6 yet, so I'll end up purchasing it for my nephew for Hanukkah, at which time I'll see it. I will admit that seeing the occlumency lesson was rather strange.

I think I'm looking forward to The Lightning Thief instead (though not without major trepidation over how badly it'll be slaughtered by Columbus). At this point, the HP movies haven't moved me in a while. I'll watch them for completeness, but really, where's the sparks?

I always get my hopes up that the next movie will be better than the last. I enjoy the movies, but they get so much wrong and leave out so much stuff.

Unlike you I enjoyed HBP and DH, so seeing the movies mucked up really upsets me. I hope, given that they're making the last book into two movies, they'll be really good, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I always get my hopes up. I always have favorite scenes, and I get so excited to see them translated to film--and then those are the scenes cut out. So I try not to have expectations anymore.

I think it's going to be awesome. DH was an amazing book, and the last movie, despite all t he liberties taken, was one of the best of the series (I'm still partial to the first movie). I'm still kinda iffy about them doing it in two movies, but if they're good, then it'll be worth it.

They changed some major plot points in the last one that I'm wondering what else they'll have to change to get the same results.

I think the movies started going downhill when they decided to cut Harry's hair. Seriously, it seems like a small thing, but the crew cut Harry just doesn't look right. I don't remember anything in the book about Harry's hair other than, when his aunt cut it all off, it grew back over night and was just as floppy and disarrayed as ever. Also, the movies have never given Ginny enough to do to make her come alive. In the books, she comes across as spunky and clever. In the movies, she's pretty blah and she looks horrible. She has the worst hair. It's odd that they made Luna so pretty and Ginny so plain. I keep wondering if the script writers have ever read the books or if they're working from some kind of plot outlines.

I won't see it

I stopped watching. Number 3 was pretty bad.

That said, Heather and Vicky seem to enjoy them (we have them on DVD).
