Bigoted fathead pastor wants people to buy Microsoft stock and then dump it because Microsoft won't hate -- ewww! -- gays.

If shmucks like this spent half the time they do freaking out about guys kissing ('cause you know it's the "guys" part -- funny how the outrage meter drops off when it's two women) on things that actually matter... well, they'd still spend half their time freaking out. But the world would still be a better place.

IF he does I think the joke will be on him, I don't think this will cause even a ripple in the price of the MS stock. (Or other companies).

This seems to show a complete lack of understanding of stock economics.

Buy MS Stock == "Stock price rises" (more or less).

Dump MS Stock == "Stock price drops". (again, more or less)

So even assuming they had enough money to substantually affect MS stock prices, all they'd be doing is a wash -- and maybe giving money away to investors (depending on how well they advertised their activities), free of charge.

See, a pump and dump scam -is- illegal, but it's not what's described -- it's when you rip off naive investors by getting them to buy a stock and inflate its value, then, while the price is high (pump == someone else's money) and they're still buying, sell them your own shares (dump).

As was said earlier, the only way this scheme even slightly makes sense is, yes, if the progenator of the scheme is attempting to use moral outrage to fuel a pump and dump scheme of his own.

Of course, P&D scams only really work well on very unstable stocks (like penny stocks holding paper assets where you own nearly all the stock). I'd not think it would do much with MS stock, with its large market cap and volumes.

And it's not even a P&D. It's just D. They dont want the price to go up in the first place. They aren't buying in hopes it will go up. They'd probably buy slowly.

They just want the price to fall. They really should be putting in orders to sell short if thats what they want, but most brokerages won't let you do that unless they think you know what you are doing and these guys clearly don't.

Acutally, its my bet thats what they'll do. And it's funny, the SEC is already after several people for doing that with microcap stocks. How hungry to pursue do you think they'll be when its done to one of the big boys?

They are going to buy Microsoft stock and then dump it to impact the share price negatively??? In other words, they want to give away the stock for less than they paid on the theory hypothesis it will hurt Microsoft more than it will hurt them??!?!

They'll lose money for sure. They know this. But Microsoft is a company with HOW much market capitalization? How many shares of it trade on a daily basis? Do they have any idea how much stock it would take to make a blip in the bottom line?

Please. Let them. I'll be there with a buy order when they are done. So will lots of other people with way more money than them.

In fact, that's the way you fight these bozos. Buy the stock they are dumping. It will serve to stabilize the stock price a little, and since they'll be dumping it, you'll probably get it cheap. So not only will you'll be on the side of the angels but you'll be making money because these idiots are handing it to you.

A friend of mine went to law college and knew a woman who was studying to be a lawyer specializing in sexual law (primarily to defend lesbians and freedom of sex kind of things). I can't find the copy of the paper she wrote to the admissions board, but I've shown it to so many people and read it enough times I practically have it memorized. How she got money to finance her education was that she worked at a small volunteer group who kept track of local fundies activities in her home state (she joined after they provided the police with proof that one fundie had tried to torch a planned parenthood clinic) and noticed that one clan (gaggle? herd?) of fundies was getting pretty heavy into "The Rapture©" and were talking about how it was imminent. She and others were afraid this might mean they would feel free to go on a shooting spree because they'd ascend to heaven before the police could catch them, so she went undercover as a pollster for the 700 Club. It's amazing what they'll tell you when you start off with "How do you see America failing in God's eye when liberals are in charge?" ;-) Anyways, third house she hit had a real nut job who ranted and raved about the coming armageddon and that only those of true faith would be saved, and at some point went off on a tangent about material possessions being the root of all evil, which the undercover lesbian found a bit odd because he owned a yacht, three expensive cars, gigantic TVs, etc, etc, etc. When she asked about this he said he was giving it all away as soon as he found a sinner who deserved to be weighed down by the curse of possessions, to which she replied that she knows of a wicked lesbian who deserved such a fate. A quick search for ownership papers, a hand written statement of consent and a visit to a local notary later and she had the loot! She sold everything within a week and had enough to get a degree.

I always wonder what happened to the guy. I mean, after a year or two of sitting in an empty house he's gotta start wondering if maybe he made a mistake in giving it all away ;-)
