Here:
Hunting can be a tremendously dangerous sport," Tred Barta, of the Outdoor Life Network, told CNN.
And what would've been your first clue...? Oh, yeah, the fucking guns.

What else has made your day a little more surreal? The biggies for me were [a] a comment at AmericaBlog to the effect that "... you... are so full of shit, I can smell you through the Internet", and [b] going into my favorite Chinese restaurant, Gourmet Garden, for lunch and hearing a tubular-bells version of "Oh My Darling Clementine".

Well, I discovered a new webcomic: http://www.wondermark.com/

It definitely fits "surreal". It feels a little PartiallyClips-esque in the layout and humor, if not the strict premise - the writing's not quite as strong, but the use of what appear to be Victorian-era illustrations lends a wonderful sense of oddity to the whole thing.

I laughed, anyway.

Gourmet Garden? Is this a chain of Chinese restaurants, or did you move to Columbia, MD and I didn't notice?

Hm. I wonder. There are at least a couple of 'em here in Michigan, but I thought there were only the two....

I've actually been contemplating writing up a web page to test out the scripting stuff I've been learning recently... The idea of the web page would be to generate random Chinese restaurant names.

For example, a workable formula would start with these two lists:

List A: "Magic", "Lucky", "Golden", "Gourmet", "New", "China", etc
List B: "Garden", "Kitchen", "Dragon", "Territory", "Empire", "Star", etc

One from list A, one from list B, and optionally (say, a third of the time) tack "Buffet" on to the end. And voila, every single generic Chinese restaurant you've ever been to.

(Obviously there are more choices for the lists, but that's what I came up with off the top of my head.)

Incidentally, Tom, is that the place where Fazoli's used to be? I only moved away from A2 several months ago, but I don't think I ever did more than just drive by Gourmet Garden. Pity.

Right next to where Fazoli's used to be. (The Fazoli's site used to be an Arby's, and is currently a combined Long John Silver/KFC.) The Gourmet Garden's building used to be a Ponderosa. Until recently, they even still had the green roof.

Add "Empire" to Column A, and "Wok" to Column B, please!

Also add ...
"Apple" to Column A, and
"Jade" to Column B.

Being given a patient assignment for someone who may be leaving tomorrow. For the third week in a row. *sigh* Apparently this happens to one person every semester, and this time, I'm elected.

Silent Garfield (http://www.truthandbeautybombs.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4997).

It's a much better and downright surreal comic when Garfield doesn't "talk."

I think that depends. Given a choice between shooting birds with people who know what they are doing and follow the rules, and hunting wild boar with spears and crossbows, the guns look pretty safe to me.
