The collectible card game, that is. Created by our own Rob Balder, [livejournal.com profile] partiallyclips, based on the universe of Sluggy Freelance.

Update: Below, Rob corrects me. It's not collectible. Well, I SAY IT IS! Because only true Sluggy/PartiallyClips fans will be lucky and smart enough to get it early, and then everyone else has to pay collectible-market prices. HAH!

Or is that over the top?

Hey thanks for the plug, Tom. But it's actually a non-collectible, standalone game. You buy the game set with 110 cards and that's it, no future purchases until and unless we make expansion decks.

I'll be ordering it today.

Now, when is the Tom Smith collectable card game coming out?

Don't do eet, mon! Creating a card game seems like a great idea until you're three years and $10,000 into it, and there's the burning and the freezing and the screaming and the wailing and the gnashing of the women and the lamentations of the teeth and the freunlaven!!! *gasp* *gasp* *le pant*

Honey, do you need a damp washcloth? ;)

"gnashing women and lamentations of the teeth," indeed. Sounds like my friend [livejournal.com profile] tlatoani who just got his wisdom teeth yanked.

"So you're attacking with Fenton? I'll defend with Rupert and use my Divine Irregularity card to boost his stats, but I'll need to discard him at the end of the combat phase."

"Not anymore - I'll play Domino Death to get rid of Rupert immediately."

...This could work.

You think so? I play "The Waffler" and the cards stick to your fingers, you can't play them, then play "Operation Desert Storm" so all of your attack cards backfire, the "Honey Pot" card to drown your Piglet, then to finish you off, I play the "Superman Sex Life Boogie" to increase your frustration tenfold until you explode all over with "Tom Smith Disease".

Or maybe you just played the "307 Ale" card at the start of the game and I'm just hallucinating the rest of the game.

A while ago I developed a generic universal card game system (yes, I was inspired by GURPS ;-) where you could make practically anything as a card and play it against anything else on equal standing. Thus the entire cast of The Last Hero On Earth could go up against Girl Genius and it would be a balanced game. Or Greek Myths against The Shopping Mall From Hell (Achilles meets his doom in the bargain shoe store, the Trojan Horse conquers the food court), or Vampire Cowboys against 50's Cheesy Sci-Fi Movies (undead cattle minions stampede the sentient broccoli from Mercury). The whole point was it would be open source, so anybody could come out with their own deck, adding to the diversity of the game. Steve Jackson could come out with an Illuminati deck that you buy in a store, you could buy a Trek Classic deck from a fan group at a con, or people in this forum could make their own Tom Smith deck just for fun and put it on the net for free, and play them all together without any one deck having an unfair advantage.

Now if only I could win the lottery to develop the game into a reality. Or get a job making games. Although right now, it looks like the lottery has better odds.
