Whoa. Very significant that he closes with the "Leave it to Beaver" footage. It's pandering to exactly that whole "push us back to an idealized 50's that never existed" garbage.

Remember when there were two fountains at the pharmacy and the coloreds knew their place? The Mexicans stayed where they belonged in California picking strawberries or cleaning our houses? Women were unable to get mortagages alone and even when they were on laudinum, our children got raised and our dinners got cooked? And the homosexuals had the decency to live lives of secrecy and quiet desperation? Vote Regressive! Because in the past things were better - for us!

Not even for "us". Mr. Robinson is African-American. He believes that white racists will like him if he loudly adopts their hate. Reminds me of an old Harlan Ellison story about an American neo-nazi punk kid who beats up an old Jewish woman and scribbles swastikas around her. After she recovers, the lady goes to his parents' house and discovers a mezuzah by the door.

Either that, or he's hoping white racists will transfer their hate to the latinos and gays.

That's part of why I labeled him "World's Biggest Asshole". As you both point out, this doof would've been victimized and repressed by the very era he claims we should go back to.

Don't be too worried--his core target audience will never vote for a black man. I know this because he did the same thing with the same ads in 2004--only then he was running for an open seat in NC's 5th district, which is much more Republican than the 13th. He got maybe 8% of the vote in the Republican primary.

Now he's back, evidently having changed residences trying to find a district that might elect him...and he's chosen a gerrymandered Democrat-safe district that takes in liberal (for NC, anyhow) sections of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and the research triangle. His political judgment is apparently about as sound as his moral values.
