Disney's The Little Mermaid 2-Disk Special Edition DVD on October 3.

What's your favorite bit, or bits, from TLM? Song, scene, particular animated bit, whatever. I admit I could just pick the whole movie and have done, but Under The Sea and Kiss The Girl are amazing, and the beautiful, awful bit where Ariel has just found out Eric is getting married to the disguised Ursula, and stands with her back pressed against the pillar unable to catch her breath, is wonderfully realized.

The single scene where Ariel arches against the rock as a wave breaks behind her is one of my favorite images, but my favorite musical moment is the instrumental that is playing as she surfaces to see their fireworks.

Ursula singing "Poor, Unfortunate Souls", just before changing Ariel to a human.

One of the best bad-guy themes in movie history.

AIEIEIEIE!! I adore The Little Mermaid. I don't think I can pick a favorite part; I loved all of it. But Sebastian is definitely my favorite character.

I have had to endure lots of teasing for admiting that I like this movie, but I do. I have the VHS (the one with the penis castle on the cover, no less), missed the DVD, so I'm glad that it's coming out again (I figured it would if I gave it enough time). And, just in time for my birthday later the same month. :)

As for my favorite...Ugh, hard to pick, particularly since it's been years since I've seen it (we don't have a VCR I'd trust with my tape in it), but Under The Sea and Kiss The Girl are good picks. :)

Les Poissons. Psychotic French people always make me laugh, especially when they're chefs.

Can't wait for "Ratatouille"!

I am so looking forward to this! its my favorite Disney movie and one I shred with my little sister. (She and I saw it oodles of times in the theatre.. ironically our other movie? JAWS. LOL)

One of my favorite scenes is Skuttle trying to figure out what was different about Ariel. Sebastian: "She's got legs, you eediot! She traded her voice to the sea witch and got legs! Jeez Mon!" teehee

Um... I've had that disc for a couple of years now. What are they doing to the movie that justifies a re-release, 2 disc version? Is it a SuperBit translation? DTS sound? Does it come in High Def WM9 that needs 4Ghz processors to run it (ala Terminator 2 special edition)? Is there an additional hour of video? The latter would be a neat trick, considering Disney fired all their 2d artists years ago.

Sounds like a new box for the same old movie. I'll probably just stick with the movie I already own.

You say that your new I D E
is quicker than compile and make.
You want to use a huge new language.
But that is a big mistake.
You see all those car computers?
They make the cars quick and spry.
But get some timing collision,
and lotsa machines will die.

Under the C.
Under the C.
We're writing code and it's ala mode, yes
under the C!
Whaddaya got? Some C plus plus?
The binary's 'nuff to crush a bus!
Our code is slicker and runs much quicker
under the C!

:) That was the original joke I was gonna base "On the PC" around, but I wanted to be a bit more mainstream. Also, not knowing C very well, I didn't feel qualified to write the darn thing. Woulda had obscure puns based on pointers and things. Yours is much better than what I was doing.

I'm fairly sure that they're gonna give the thing the same treatment they've given the other Platinum Edition releases, which would include restored audio and video (and the restorations have been stellar, you've gotta admit), deleted scenes and songs, and a few other making-of goodies. Possibly a feature on why they hired Ashman & Menken, which would likely touch on "Little Shop". At least one set-top game for kids age 3-8.

Yours is funnier to a broader audience. Not as many folks know anything about computer languages :)

I have two:

I absolutely love Ariel exploring the land, with all the sea creatures going, "Have they kissed yet?" "Not yet..."

My second favorite bit is how my then-boyfriend groused over and over about being dragged to see it, and laughed himself silly the whole way through. :)

Changed my mind.

My FAVORITE part of the movie was the video box, with Ariel staring at Eric's crotch, Eric staring at Ariel's boobs, and in the background the castle tower shaped like an enormous penis.

Somehow I doubt they'll use the same thing for the new DVD cover, though.

It's so easy to get worked up over how they Disneyfied the ending and forget how well-done the film was otherwise.

The complexity and mix of humor and romance in "Kiss the Girl" stick in my mind. The little details really stand out in TLM.

btw, yesterday the church I went to included Ursula in the sermon.
