I think so, Brain, but was "pondering" the Goblin Cleaver or the Foe Hammer?

Glamdring was Foe Hammer, Orcrist was Goblin Cleaver. It scares me that I remember this kind of stuff without having to hit Google.

OK, it's not Xmas anymore but this was the only Tolkienish icon I had to hand.

Bwaha. I'm never gonna forget myself, because of another animated, Rankin-Bass's The Hobbit. Cyril Richard as Elrond, intoning those names.... *sigh*

Yah. The voice cast was the best part of that production, yes? And Brother Theodore as Gollum. Crikeys, I can't think who played Bilbo though. Orson Bean? Or was that one of the LotR toons? Meh. Where there's a whip, there's a way. Bwaha.

You're right in both cases. Rankin-Bass got back Bean to play both Bilbo and Frodo in their Return of the King, as well as John Huston as Gandalf and Theodore as Gollum (and sterling utility work by Paul Frees and Dale Messick). The other biggie was Roddy McDowall as Sam. Oddest casting there was not William Conrad as Denethor, nor even Theodore Bikel as Aragorn, but Casey Kasem as Merry.

Every now and then I think you're just this great guy you know, then you go and remind me that you're absolutely tuned into the essentials of the universe (though shouldn't there be an exclaimation mark after "Freakazoid"?!!!)

Yay for P&tB and A, and hushed antici-pation for the glorious big F (and has The Tick animated come out on DVD yet?)

The creator of The Tick was at San Diego Comic-Con last year, and one of my friends asked about that. He told her there were some rights issues that were preventing the release of the animated series on DVD - I forget the details, but one of the people that has some rights in the animated series was refusing to play nice with everyone else.

This person was not involved in the live-action series, hence it was able to be released.

Oddly, I was just thinking about them...quite possibly because I was listening to "Every Mouse Just Wants To Rule The World" and seriously missing Anim/P&TB. They were the last gasp of the old fashioned fun&anarchy from WB, replaced by turning classic characters into basketball players for no adequately explained reason.

HA! Just before checking this forum, I read an email from a friend where we've been discussing movies we'd like to support financially if we could. One of the few we've been bantering about is a live action Pinky and the Brain. I want it directed by Peter Jackson, she wants Pinky played by Roberto Benigni, and to further delve into coincidental weirdness, we both agreed we wanted Tom Smith to compose the music (insert Twilight Zone theme here)

What I'm looking forward to is _finally_ showing a friend "Pinky P.O.V." It's the one episode he's never seen and he's always wondering where Pinky comes up with those answers.

Rhythm & Hues studios, that realized Garfield in the feature film of the same name [and the upcoming sequel], as well as Aslan and other talking beasts in the Narnia feature, could probably make P&B happen. Almost convincingly, even.

With all due respct to Roberto Benigni, I can't imagine Pinky with a thick Italian accent, though, honestly.

She was thinking who could pull it off the best (including body movement) and readily acknowledges he'd need serious voice coaching. As for my choice, I think Jackson has the sense of grandure to properly portray the grandess of Brain's schemes, and the sense of humor to show them falling apart.

Who do you think should play them?

Orson Welles as The Brain and Stan Laurel as Pinky, of course.

Modernly? Dunno. Might stick with the voice actors. Maurice is The Brain, he just Is. I could almost see Hugh Laurie as Pinky, but he seems to get getting away from the British Twit pigeonhole he'd been in between Blackadder and Jeeves.

true enough. and HL's showing enough irascibility and staggering genius as House, he could probably pull off a convincing Brain. for Pinky, perhaps Rowan Atkinson? there's no getting THAT one away from the British Twit pigeonhole, i think.

This is just some silly memory of mine, but I thought you might get a giggle out of it, Tom...

Back in Triple-H's early days, when he had his post D-X theme song, my brother was humming the opening lines
"One, two... Is this ON?"
And I noticed he said it with the slightest of British accents. So I said "You sounded like Pinky for a second there."

Right away he goes into his impression of Pinky saying;

"One, two... Is this on, Brain? Ummm... Better give me another hit of that Triple-H... NARF!"
