[profile] jblaque reminds me of something [profile] markbernstein and I have loved for a long time: the storytelling duo of Geoffrey Lewis and Geoff Levin, performing under the name Celestial Navigations.

It is hard to overstate how wonderful this stuff is, and fortunately easy to demonstrate:

Not to mention the incredible "Horses".

Any good storytelling you've found lately to share? Audiobooks count.

Thank you so much! After The Dwarf, I am putting myself back together again before I watch any more. Thank you.

I so love Celestial Navigations - I remember watching them on the Smothers Brother's Show and actually about a year ago I looked up the information to get a couple of their cds based on that memory

I've recently rediscovered Jim Henson's The Storyteller, which was marvelous and noticeably darker than the Muppets or Fraggles. Even better, I've found not only the main series, but the Greek Myths as well. I can't decide which host I like better: John Hurt for the main series, or Michael Gambon for the Greek myths. Either way, if you haven't seen them (or not for many years), it's time (again).

I was first introduced to Celestial Navigation on the most recent incarnation of the Smothers Brothers show. They appeared once or twice before the show was canceled. AMAZING storytelling.

I'm re-listening to Variable Star on audio-book, as read by Spider himself. I enjoy his reading greatly.

I like Stephen Briggs, who reads most of the Discworld audio books. I think he does a great job with Pratchett's style of humor.

Tom,
I can't express how much this effected me.As Agent Orange makes life more difficult everyday I think of those who came back more visably affected than I.

I've been listening to a lot of Terry Pratchett audio books while doing my Giftmas knitting, and become especially fond of the BBC radio theatre adaptations of "Guards, guards", "Wyrd Sisters", "Witches abroad" and "Small Gods"... also, "Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents" is a perennial favourite, and wonderfully acted. I heartily recommend 'em all. :)

I actually have a friend who has recently started releasing a science fiction audio drama series online. It's called The Endless Night (http://www.anartlawful.libsyn.com/), and it's about a space pirate captain who's a bit down on his luck, and the ragtag crew he pulls together when he's given one last chance.

The sound quality and technical stuff is getting better every episode as he figures out more about the software, but the real strength of the show is the writing. It's clever, sad, hilarious, and badass in turns and sometimes all at once!
He's really trying to build up more listeners, so it'd be great if you could give him a listen! :D
