I remembered abruptly the other day that today is Wrestlemania. (The link is to Pro Wrestling Torch's preview.)

Feh.

We've gone in two years from Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero starting a new era in WWE... to ultimate bore-ier Triple H vs. perpetual New Kid on the Blockhead John Cena, the Undertaker vs. Mark frickin' Henry in a casket match (oooooh, I wonder who'll win?), Shawn Michaels vs. ego freak Vince McMahon, and Edge vs. Mick Foley (almost four years retired and not scheduled for anything after WM, oooooh, I wonder who'll win?). Benoit has to work with JBL, and yesterday Eddie was entered posthumously into the WWE Hall of Fame. (Two separate stories, there.)

I repeat: Feh. I'm playin' Oblivion today.

I've gotta find out how much money, if any, WWE gets for those OVW DVDs. If little or none, that's the way I'm goin'.

Any of you getting WM this year?

I've never gotten WM. Not my kind of "entertainment".

Despite the pre-recorded message on my answering machine from Triple H yesterday morning (no, really), and despite the fact that it's taking place in my hometown, I'll be skipping this one. Lately if I feel like watching wrestling I head straight for TNA.

Though I am entertaining fantasies of sneaking into Allstate arena just to kick the booking committee in the nuts. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I might watch the DVDs later, but seeing the command crew revisit Babylon 4 isn't that high on my list, despite the revelation at the end.

But Zathras is used to it. Nobody ever listen to or watch Zathras.

Zathras have very sad life. Probably have very sad death. But, at least there is symmetry.

I was big into WWF from Wrestlemania I through V, but then, for reasons I don't know, I sort of lost interest.

Over the last week, again for reasons I don't know, I've been on a rabid nostalgia kick regarding WWF, and have rewatched the first 5 wrestlemanias and seen VI and VII for the first time thanks to the WWE Anthology DVDs.

It's amazing how different matches were in the early 80's versus nowadays, and how much "powerful" wrestlers are today. In the old days if you got hit with a chair, that was pretty much it. And you saw a chair get pulled maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks. Now if a chair doesn't come out in a match, it's an anomoly.

It was also really neat watching the WM's in rapid succession, chronologically, and seeing how vince was learning how to repackage his wrestling from basically just classic style to the repackaged glitzy version of the future.

It's been tons of fun.

Gee, maybe if they left wrestling in the hands of people who actually WATCHED WRESTLING instead of HOLLYWOOD WRITERS who never watched a wrestling match in their FRICKIN' LIFE, they'd still have a project worth watching!

I was there, live in the arena.

Personally, I'd rather have Triple H as the champ over a poser like John Cena.

Cena is supposed to be a rough thug from the streets. He acts like a thug, he dresses like a lhug, yet he was born and raised in white suberbia, in a mansion-like house. He freely showed this in one of his music videos.

WWE fans aren't that dumb. We're not like some rap fans who buy the hype dispite the contrary (Rapper says he's a thug, yet lives in a mansion). We let Cena know what we thought of him, after the show people I talked to fully agreed that it was wrong that Cena won.

The rest of the show made up for it.

The 6-way ladder match was spactacular. Hope they give RVD a chance with his title shot.

Vince/Shawn was actualy good, ending with a great spot with Shawn jumping off a "Jeff Hardy" style ladder onto Vince.

Woman's wrestling was advanced with Trish/Mickie... but was pushed back severly with Torrie/Candice.

Rey/Orton/Angle should have been longer, but was good for what it was. Good to see Rey get a chance to hold the strap.

Benoit/JBL was ok, JBL remembered himself, and didn't try to match holds with Benoit. JBL is a good brawler, I'll say that.

Taker was just there to stoke his ego. moving on...

Edge/Foley was amazing. Edge wearned respect from me for taking a bare-back fall onto thumbtacks, then taking bare-back hits from a barbwire "whip". Lita taking Mr Socko wraped in barbwire was cool too, evn getting her lip cut open from it. But then came the flaming table shot. Defently a "Holy Shit" moment.

A good show, dispte the main event finish.
