This isn't 100% on topic, but I don't have anywhere else I can think of to put it. It's what really bothers me in that Seymour Hirsch article in the New Yorker about Iran.
A government consultant with close ties to the civilian leadership in the Pentagon said that Bush was “absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb” if it is not stopped. He said that the President believes that he must do “what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do,” and “that saving Iran is going to be his legacy.”
The key point is in bold. It's when a leader decides that they alone know what must be done and that they alone have the strength to do it, that's when they decide that they are personallyindispensable. That's really bad. That's when the train really has gone off the tracks. You don't know what somebody will pull in that scenario.

What I'm really hoping is that this is intentional and part of an attempt to unnerve the Iranian government. I really hope that they're thinking, "okay, we've proven we'll do whatever the hell we want, hopefully if we talk this way they'll believe it and fold." That would be nice. But I don't think this administration thinks that way. I just wish it did.

That and the leak were the heat of the blogosphere yesterday. It sounds as if many of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are just as appalled as we are. Lots of info at Daily Kos (http://www.dailykos.com/).

Wow. Between those two and the immigration clusterfuck, it seems like the Republicans are indeed imploding - maybe not within their own party, but as far as the voters go, I'd be surprised if they have much more than their loyal base left. Looks like (after six years, dammit) the Democratic strategy of "wait for the Republicans to shoot themselves in the foot" seems to be coming to fruition. I just hope the party doesn't drop the ball on this one - we really need to nail them to the wall now, and hard.

Uh-oh...

So, popularity figures in freefall, allies rapidly putting as much distance as possible between themselves and america, calls for impeachment growing, impending criminal charges for about half his crew, and the other half looking as though they'll turn fink on the rest of them, scandals laft right and center...

and he's convinced of their manifest destiny yet and thinks he's on some sort of god given mission.

Which means Bush and his cadre are pretty much backed into a cornor and are betting it all on another roll of the dice...

that's worrying.

Well, they ARE on a mission from God. It's 6337 miles to Tehran, they've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and they're wearing sunglasses.

Okayyyy.... looks like Bush has been borrowing some of Blairs sef-depreciating humor, only he kinda got it wrong.... like, it wasn't really a joke.

considering that this is the guy supposidly considering wether or not to nuke Iran's underground nuclear processing bunkers... that's rather worrying!

This surprises me not at all. Is this a new recording? Because he has been sounding like this for most of the last six years. The sick part is that there is still a brainwashed 40 percent of this country that thinks this man is still doing a heckuva job.

Oh, and Iran... been seeing that one coming for a while too.

I like the comment that said, "President Beavis" Somebody oughta do an animation with him, and Cheney as Butthead.

"hehehehe Iraq's on FIRE! FIRE!"
"heh-heh. Fire's cool."

I didn't have the nerve to watch this with my headsets on--I have an adverse reaction to hearing his sneering, smirking voice.

Watching it with the sound off is instructive. He looked more like a standup comedian trying to physically force people to laugh at lame jokes.

I'm nauseous.
