Ann Coulter felt it necessary to state in her blog that she is anti-murder and anti-false accusation.

I don't expect her to understand that a fragment of the Left's utter loathing and disgust with her is based on the fact that who in their right fucking mind needs to come out and say this?!?

"Y'know, Bob, I've always been against gratuitous killing. And making up shit so other people get in trouble for things they haven't done... yeah, that's just not cool, y'know?"

Bluntly, she lies. She lies incessantly, and speaks loudly and with the faux authority that the TV camera grants women who might theoretically be called "attractive". She has lied repeatedly and wildly -- words which sum up how she speaks about pretty much everything, really -- and called for the deaths of everybody from the population of North Korea to Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens (paraphrasing, "Someone should put rat poison in his creme brulee. -- That's a joke, by the way." Some fuckin' joke).

Once again, for the record: I've got a hefty list of people I think should be in prison for what they've done to this country over the past several years. The enablers and cheerleaders and canaries in the mine of How Far Can We Push It, such as Coulter, Malkin, Limbaugh, Hannity, and Michael Weiner (Savage), not to mention most of the staff of Fox and CNN, are just as complicit as BushCo. I wish them no violence. I want them to live long, healthy lives, rotting slowly in their cells at the Hague or wherever.

So, I'll ask: Does anyone on my friend's list actually like Coulter? Listen to her? Believe her?

Well, I guess she doesn't consider the gratuitous killing of those who disagree with her as "murder", then.

People like her sometimes make me wish that I believed in a judgemental afterlife. Because I know she'll never suffer for her wrongs in this life, but I know that in any reasonable conception of Hell, she'd undoubtedly end up there.

But that punishment isn't mine to pass. Ideally, I'd just wish for her to truly realize the farcical jackass she's become, and maybe feel the same disgust for herself that most rational people feel for her.

It bothers me that Al Franken is constantly compared to her, as in "the Left's answer to Ann Coulter". No, Franken is frequently civil and intelligent, and refutes things with FACTS, not name-calling and death wishes.

A few years back, at a gathering of friends, some wag gave the host (a staunch liberal) a doll of Ann Coulter, as a gag gift.

By the end of the day I and two others had taken a crochet hook, fashioned a noose out of yarn, and hanged the doll in a convenient birdcage the host owned for some bizarre reason.

I doubt you'll find anyone speaking up for her here. At our (pardon the arrogance) slightly higher level of discourse, the bigger problem is with people who try to draw equivalencies between her and, say, Michael Moore, as if they're equally nutjobbish, which just ain't so.

My first run-in with her was when I flipped on some show late at night on HBO. Can't even remember the name. Four panel members, pseudo-debate, etc. I remember looking at her and thinking, "Well, she seems reasonably int--wait a second, WHAT did she just say?"

I reserve my least favorite four-letter word in the world for two people: my brother's wife, and Ann Coulter. I consider it a happy coincidence that my brother's wife's first name, Ann Coulter's last name, and said word all begin with a "c."

I would say that Ann and Moore are about equal. They aren't the same, but they both are blinded by slant, they both are hypocritical in their tactics, and both of their respective parties tend to distance themselves from them.

I've met many republicans who think Ann Coulter is a sad excuse for a republican. Mostly because she likes to speak for the republican party like its her job and they get a lot of flack for things she says. Not that it's hard to embarass republicans.

"about equal" and "aren't the same". Which is it?

Look, hypocrites in politics are a dime a dozen. So are fringe elements and people who slant to the point where they bend facts to fit theory. I mean, by that criteria, the entire Bush Administration is "about equal" to Coulter.

Coulter crosses the line, not in hypocrisy or slant, but in purposely putting herself outside basic civility and manners. In fact, she brags about it, citing "never be civil" as a basic rule in her book "How to talk to a Liberal (if you have to)". A few others on the fringe right, like Savage and O'Rielly, do that too. But, other than the aforementioned Rude Pundit, no public figure on the left does that on a regular basis. Franken, in particular, makes a point of being very polite and civil even at his most witheringly sarcastic. Moore, too, is calm, reasonable, and unadulterated by threats of violence. At least, when the cameras are rolling. He ain't someone I admire particularly, but he's no Ann coulter.

Well, okay, I'll give her this much.

I like that she's soooo looneytoons she's easy to shred.

She provides Al Franken and Bill Maher an easy way of making their points, and I like that about her.

I'll like her for her own sake when she becomes the next Pat Robertson, where every time she opens her mouth she does more damage to the causes she expouses.

When will that happen? When her looks go. Cuz for all of the moralization the neocons do, the fact is that nobody would have ever paid any attention to her if she looked like Janet Reno.

She looks hideous. I swear I am not bloody joking here. Any time she opens her mouth, and starts spouting hate, something in her face, in her eyes, something twists, and it makes her look absolutely hideous.

Then again, eyes and voice are the first physical attributes that I pay attention to, when it comes to sexual attraction. More importantly, they can ruin a good looking body, or make me completely ignore any other physical attributes for me.

James Earl Jones could read my shopping list for me and I'd be mewling on the floor. Anne Coulter makes me want to put on several extra layers of clothing.

The more I see Ann Coulter speak, and the more rampant lunacy I hear come out of her pie-hole, the more I have come to the realization that even she doesn't believe a word that comes out of her own mouth. She is just spouting to see people react. She -expects- those on the right to freak out on her, so she can use it as fuel for another run of fetid spooge. She is quite literally powered by those people who waste their time to paying attention to her and then publicly react. If people would just stop paying attention to her, I think she would vanish into the bleak nothingness whence she came.

Ann coulter lies. Moore editoralizes. I've yet to see any of his detractors actually pull up evidence that he's lying. There are filing cabinets of Coulters lies.

Moore calls actiosn stupid. He does accuse people of stupid acts. He supports those claims. Ann just calls people she doesn't liek stupid. Ann hates, moore laughs and give help when he cans.

Michael moore is the following things, in order..
1> A Filmmaker.
2> A humorist
3> A political commentator.
4> A trouble maker who doesn't know when to quit

Ann Coulter is the following things in order
1> A political comentator
2> a hate monger
3> ..there is no three..she's not a humorist, she's not a news person, she's just a poltitical commentator. No art, no intentional humor. Just bitching basically...

Moore is trying to be funny first. I'll forgive alot when it's attached to humor.

If The left has a Coulter/Lumbaugh nutcase, it's randi Rhodes. I've heard her yell and scream and venomously attack. She hangs up on people. She insults peole who call her show. She badmouths people without backing up her assertions. THATS what the right wing nutcases do as well.

Moore does not do that. Franken does not do that. mind you, I don't like Franken much, but he's not crazy like the rights spokespeople generally seem to be.

Thanks for summing up Coulter/Moore succinctly. I admit I disagree regarding Randi Rhodes, for much the same reason: I find that she does back up her assertions with facts. She does get loud, no doubt -- but, when she has to, the documentation's there.

Now, don't get me started on Ed Schultz.,,,

Once again I come in with a lone point of view in Mr. Smith's journal. This is not a bad thing; I love that the internet brings people of dissenting views together.

I didn't vote for Kerry in the last election. I didn't vote for Bush either. I find it unfortunate that Micheal Moore has, (assuming this comment tree is accurate) apologized for voting for Nader in 2000. It's a sad day for politics when you have to apologize for voting for the person you most want to win. I voted for Michael Badnarik, and were I to have the single deciding vote between Bush and Kerry, I would still vote for Badnarik. I will not endorse a candidate I do not most want to win.

I have seen Roger and Me, The Big One, Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11, as well as at least one episode of the awful truth. I liked the first 2, but not the latter ones. I do not like Micheal Moore. I find Al Frankin hilarious but do not agree with his politics. I do not like Micheal Savage. I listen to Limbaugh about twice a week and I read Michelle Malkin's blog. I have read Coulter's book Treason but none of the others. I occasionally listen to the Jerry Doyle (but more because he’s our beloved Mr. Garibaldi than his politics). I used to listen to the Harry Browne radio show before his death.

Ultimately I think the underlying problem here is that motivation of news media, be it radio, television or print, is not to inform. And I think it's foolish to expect it to inform. Media companies are created by individuals that want to make a profit. And as a result ratings, sales numbers or website hits trump all other concerns. You cannot expect a news source in a capitalist society to give you the straight news as long as it has shareholders to appease or a bottom line. It has to go after the broadest market in the demographic to which it panders.

This is unfortunate but I do not see a solution. No matter how you set up your news, it’s going to have obvious bias. Capitalism biases toward ratings, government news (BBC, NPR, etc) are going tend toward bigger government slants and for obvious reasons. I think the best thing to do is recognize the biases present in the media you acquire.

As for Ann Coulter, she is not invited on news shows because she "tells it like it is," or is an amazing political commentator. She's invited for the same reason everyone else. She puts asses in seats and eyes on the screen. Even the people that despise have interest in watching what she'll say next. She is not a moron; this is the personality she's created. She’s in it for the money. You can hate her for that reason, but she is not an idiot.

And with all that said, I would like to also note I think it's interesting that one of the major complaints of Ann Coulter in this thread is her lack civility and decency, while at the same time half the comments posted here refer to her as hideous, a bitch or bloody stupid. One cute story recounts hanging her in effigy, and another calls for a slow lingering humiliating death. Very civil indeed.

I don't think you can blame the media for Ann Coulter--they certainly didn't ask her to be who she is. They are at fault for continuing to give her a platform, no more--horrible enough as it is.

And what she is, is an evil and hateful person. She thinks it's all right to wish someone murdered--all the way up to a Supreme Court Justice. Had Franken, or Rhodes, or Garofalo or Seder said anything comparable, they would have been sacked and the uproar from the right wing would've been deafening.

Instead, she benefits again from the media double standard--the one that allows Bill O'Reilly to keep his job after doctoring a tape to make Senator Biden say something he didn't, but demanded Dan Rather's head for a report that he didn't file himself... and that was right in the big picture but wrong in a few specifics.

Frankly, compared to her own words, she's gotten off lightly by this crowd. One reaps what one sows. When she shows some respect, I'll afford her some.

She is an evil, lying harridan, and that's all the more civil I'm willing to be until she shows some civility.
