Thanks to
ladysmith for the heads-up on this year's Nebula Award winners. Joss Whedon won Best Script for the screenplay of Serenity, and Harlan Ellison was presented the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award.
So, what are your choices for the Hugos? I mean, apart from
shsilver as Best Fan Writer. :)

Date: 2006-05-08 04:17 pm (UTC)Serenity will, I am confident, get Long Dramatic. As well it should.
I have a few I'd rather not see win. I wasn't a big fan of Accelerando by Stross, though I'm in the minority; likewise, "I, Robot" by Doctorow annoyed me.

Date: 2006-05-08 05:15 pm (UTC)Round 1:
Dr Who ep A
Dr Who ep B
BG
Hugos
Lucas Back
Dr Who ep C
Dr Who ep C drops off, but its votes go to Dr. Who A and B, helping boost them higher, let's say the same order. Lucas Back drops off with its votes going to the Prix Victor Hugo, now we have:
Dr. Who ep A
Dr. Who ep B
Hugo
BG
BG drops off and we have
Dr. Who ep B
Dr. Who ep A
Hugo

Date: 2006-05-08 05:26 pm (UTC)He's kinda pudgy, and looks like he never sees the sun.
But he was on the run ALL weekend. Certainly seemed fine to me.

Date: 2006-05-08 04:45 pm (UTC)For Non-fiction, Transformations by Ashley.
I seem to be a minority that likes "Father's Day" best of the Dr. Who eps.
"Serenity" over W&G.
Just beginning my fiction reading.

Date: 2006-05-08 04:56 pm (UTC)Serenity
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Batman Begins
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
All are good choices, and I won't be too disappointed with any of them winning.
At this point, I've read 3.5 of the five Novel nominees. I'm halfway through Learning the World, and I haven't gotten to A Feast For Crows. Right now, my ranking (with the Martin TBD) is:
Accelerando - seems to be dividing people, but I loved it
Spin - would win my vote easily most years
Learning the World - very good so far
Old Man's War - well, I'm going to put it ahead of No Award - it's a good read - - but I wouldn't have nominated it myself

Date: 2006-05-08 05:28 pm (UTC)For film, I would say Serenity, though of the others, only HP4 seems like a weak choice.
For TV, "Empty Child"/"Doctor Dances" with the caveat that I've only seen the three Doctor Whos.

Date: 2006-05-08 05:37 pm (UTC)Well, NOT A Feast for Crows. =P
Hey, Frank Wu's up for Fan Artist! I think he's the artist GoH for our local Con this month. Met him at RadCon.
"Best Interactive Video Game" confuses me. Not only because it was dropped, but because the idea of a non-interactive video game boggles me.

Date: 2006-05-08 09:00 pm (UTC)I think the 2 parter (Empty Child/Doctor Dances) was the strongest of the 3 choices.
Father's Day and Dalek just don't grab me as much for that vote.
As for Long presentation, HP4 should not be on the list in my opinion... Cliff notes version of the book and not much cliff notes in there. It was ok, but for someone who has read the books, its really chopped up and missing a LOT.
Narnia was very good and I am going to have a hard time choosing between that and W&G.
As for books, I have read Old Man's War and its sequel. Old Man's War was a good story, but I suspect the sequel will NOT be on the list next year. The author is also up for the Campbell award against a number of authors I am not familar with.
Artists, I have met a number of the ones nominated for Pro (nice people) and a couple of the fan artists over the years. I have no clue whom I am going to vote for, but maybe someone who has not won a hugo before, so they get the recognition.
Harold S.- Worldcon 2006 art show staff... (I told Joni I don't know better...)
