E3 "booth babes" ordered to cover up.

See, this is why I despise the hypocritical, superstitious rabble passing themselves off as the arbiters of "morality". Ooooh! We might see some nekkid female flesh! Oh, no! What might happen then?

Ummm... can't think of a thing, actually. Some teenage boys might masturbate more. 'Cause, y'know, teenage boys never masturbate unless game companies shove scantily clad women in front of their helpless eyes.

Don't any of these people have anything to do in the Real World, that they have so much time to worry about pretty girls in skimpy clothes corrupting the Youth of Amurka?

what, did someone bring queen victoria back to life? good grief, people. what's next? are they gonna try and tell me i can't wear my evil schoolgirl minidress or my leather halter top around marcon anymore? i guess the idea that women are aware of the effect certain outfits create and that they can use their discretion about what they should wear in public are just bits of my imagination, huh?

Of course they are, you silly woman. We're aware of the effect, but we can't POSSIBLY be trusted with our discretion, because we don't have any. We are ebil ebil h0rs doing it to corrupt poor, helpless male-types ON PURPOSE. Because we hate America and want to make the baby Jesus cry.

Now button up that blouse and that lip! Better yet, here, wear this burqa.

I saw another article about this in the newspaper, and the models are mostly happy about the more modest standards. They don't get to choose what they wear; their outfits are chosen by their mostly-male employers. Thus, they cannot use their own discretion as [livejournal.com profile] sylverwolfe said. One model said that she finds it difficult to discuss the game she is trying to sell when she is embarrassed about her costume. Another said that her breasts kept falling out of the top her employers originally wanted her to wear.

And consider this from the point of view of the people running E3. Do they want their convention to be known for being as much a skin show as it is a electronic game forum? They want E3 to be taken seriously. The article said they allow an exception to the modesty standards for models dressed as actual game characters.

As long as the scantily clad or nude women are matched by an equal number of scantily clad or nude men, I've got no problems at all. :P

Yeah, but according to the fucked-up logic here, they'd have to be holding chainguns. Which would be all right. [headdesk]

What really got me was the 'Sponsored Links' section at the bottom of the page . . . and I quote . . .

Buy Naughty Nurse and Sexy Costumes Here
Spice it up as a naughty nurse, french maid, dominatrix, sexy school girl or other sizzling character. Indulge your fantasies with erotic costumes for daring trick or treaters.

. . . and a link to a website called 'nightmarefactory,' with predictable pre- and suffixes.

You mean other than sneaking off to their private lairs, to ogle their own collections of kiddy porn and BDSM literature? No. No they do not.

Well, the Union of Ho's and Escorts there in Vegas (local 69) didn't like the imported competition. So they bought off... er, brought their concerns to the city fathers who then directed E3 to make sure there would be no free fleshshows on the showroom floor.

Heh.

I find it funny as hell that E3 is being held in Vegas (home of the drive through brothel) but still wants to promote a "wholesome" image of their procedings.

So that would mean that this (http://eggycaption.livejournal.com/34878.html) is probably verboten (not that that's entirely a bad thing, mind you).

I have begun to say, openly and to their face, "Have all the homeless been found homes? Are there no hungry people in this country right now? Have all of the children in foster homes been adopted? If not, you shouldn't be worrying about what other people are or are not doing because you're not doing what Christ himself told you to do. But that'd be uncomfortable wouldn't it? You'd have to expend real effort to do that and it's so much easier to hassle the homos or accost people in the aisles of the grocery store."

Soren was apalled that I'm actually telling them this, but I think it's high time more people started calling them on their hypocritical, prissy, moralistic, anti-Christian blather.

I agree with you, as (surprise, surprise) do a lot of my "hard-core conservative gun-nut blue-state" friends.

However, there are a lot of people on what I think is your side of the aisle who'd be just as eager to make the "booth babes" cover up. There's enough blame for most sides on this one.

As someone whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower ... I'm still kind of at a loss. It's a con, people. The only person who can cogently make this argument is Jack Thompson, and we all know how credible he is.
