Domestic and international teasers, substantially the same. Not bad, except for that cheesy "... I'm Ghost Rider" at the end. At least he does sound haunted when he says it.
Loved this teaser...I've seen some bitching about how awful the effects look, how stupid this trailer is, and...well, jeez I must be easy to please or something, 'cause I didn't see a thing wrong with it - in fact, I'll probably be jonesing for it until February :)
I happen to like Nic - it's hard for me not to like a guy who took his frickin stage name from a COMIC BOOK to begin with :) :), plus he's one of less than a handful (if any) of people who've (according to reports) sat on the King's final "throne" in Graceland...
Finally, if nothing else - Peter FRICKIN' Fonda!? In a motorcycle flick?! As Mephisto! I've gotta see me this movie - screw X3.
PS - did anyone see the appearance of the original Ghost Rider? AICN has a great screen grab of the two Riders in it's article about the teaser
I was a big fan of early early ghost rider. I had a complete collection in the 80's, including guest appaerances in marvel team up, the complete champions run, etc..that being said..I'd prefer cheesy to dark, as the early stuff was VERY cheesy. just for fun, heres some history.
There are a number of incarnations to choose from. I think I know what they'll go with, but i wish they'd pick some of the really early choices.
1> Cowboy ghost rider: changes when there is 'danger near'. Thinks like a texas cowboy stunt rider, but speaks mostly in 'demon'. "Beware my wrath y'all" (no really, actual quote..marvel spotlight #15.)
2> hollywood rider: most consistent. Gets cultured in hollywood, holds a job. Still ocasionally thinks like a cowboy. Even more demon speak.
3> Night Rider: Chages when it is dark. Still thinks like a stunt driver, slightly less texan. Easy Rider with demons.
4> Demon rider: Changes: At will: Thinks mostly like a demon now when in demon form. All the fun is gone. ;). almost compeltely possesed. This is of course what they will use.
There may be more, but i stopped reading the first time johnny blaze was 'cured' and the curse passed to someone else.
Oh yeah, it will be interesting to see if "Satan" is..Satan (as he orignally was) or if he is, generic demon (I guess to tame down the comments) or Mephisto (to make it more marvelly)..it's been all three in the comics.
Son of Satan was a spin off of Ghost rider (a marvel spotlight transition when GH got his own book), who later learend his Satan was "Mephisto"..oddly, Damien Hellstorm did not change his moniker to "son of Mephisto"...
Early Ghost Rider was pretty controversial, with alot of religous letters, from fans and detractors alike, debating on the nature of evil, and why exactly Johnny Blaze was REALLY free of Satan's control. The story reason was that "Roxanne's innocence" protected him, but in the long term, that didn't wash. (especially when he dumped her for Daredevil's Karen Page). I always went with "He made the deal to sacrifice for someone else, giving Satan no REAL control over him.
*Did you know: "JC" was an early character in Ghost Rider, at least he probably was. Random hippy giving preachy pep talks to blaze, offering assurances and protection, with infinite knowledge, and never identifying himself.
Signed, your resident Ghost Rider Expert.. who is probably NOT going to be a fun person to see the movie with...(NO! WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!)... Here's hoping I don't get kicked out of the theater :)
According to the teaser VO (the VO is Sam Elliott as Caretaker :) ), Nic's Johnny is basically #3 (changes at dark, is a stunt rider), with some hints of Ketch-era Blaze (there is a brief shot of Cage using a Hellfire shotgun as seen during that run)
