At last: The rumors of moron conservative politicians failing to pierce Colbert's satire has documentable evidence.

I am content.

blink ... blink

someone must have hacked the website and replaced the video. Go look, there is no mention of Colbert anywhere, it says that the video should be Delay talking about what a bad person Earle is

Actaully, the blurb seems unrelated to the video, and doesn't mention it. It's entirely possible you're right, though. Still funny.

Nope, it's definitely the Colbert interview though as you say there is no text attached that states it. But I clicked and there it was....

Kind of mind blowing really. Part of me is wondering if someone on the inside is not quite on their side, or they really just don't get it.

It's also possible that it's a very cleverly done parody site. But I'm not really getting that vibe.

That's actually worrying. It's funny, but it disquiets me somewhat, since I worry about people who have no capacity for non-literal thought. So much of language and cognition operates on metaphor, analogy, idiom, and other non-literal constructions that I wonder what else they don't get, and what kind of cognitive deficit they have.

So basically you worry about the entire current administration? ;-)

To paraphrase something I heard once: "No one who wants to work for the government should be allowed to do so."

Maybe it would be better to have mandatory terms in office for everybody. But then that supposed that you're educating everybody enough that they could do that job. Though I'm sure it would be a "learning experience" regardless.

I'd be willing to put in a term of one year in a random "office" as long as I was able to come back to my regular job/life afterwords. But then I guess that disqualifies me according to my previous statement. ;-)

There's a potentially significant difference between "wants to" and "would be willing".

Dude, how would that be any different from the draft?

Never said it would be. But this would be a "whole government body" draft for any position. So you could end up anywhere in the government stream. Also it's not military necessarily either though the idea in my head resembles the required military service of the Swiss (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription#Switzerland). I'm sure some things like existing skills could be taken into account to prevent people from ending up too far afield of what they want to do in life but in the end the choice should have some serious randomness to it to prevent stagnation, deliberate placement, and "dynasty" issues.

I'm not saying the idea is perfect but the one thing it does bring to my mind immediately is that it would make people more involved in the governing of their country. And that is something America desparately needs.

it's called narcissism

One of the comments on the link remarks that narcissism makes a person totally unable to distinguish mockery and other forms of sarcasm. They have a lack of empathy.

This is why I’m not a huge Colbert fan, contrary to almost everyone I know. Because I watch O’reilly and I can’t tell the diffrence. Colbert is funny, but in the same way O’Reilly is funny, except O’Reilly’s funnier, becuase he’s not just making it up, he’s really that insane.

Turst me, given time I could come with tons of quotes from O’Reilly or Hannity that would outdo anything Colbert Would come up with. the reason he’s invited to the press dinner, is because they think he’s conservative. You think the white house press thing outed him, watch it again, the entire thing..

Bush makes fun of HIMSELF! It’s a roast folks, they expect their supporters to hit them. And Colber did not hit that hard, not in obviousl ways. Watch the audience. 80% of them don’t get it. One or two were offended. Three or four were laughing hysterically. The rest were BORED. They had no idea that any thing he was saying was off kilter. They are so brainwashed they think it’s prefercly reasonable.

Colbert is to subtle for 90% of the populas, and that scares me. He could be O’Reilly. For the satire to work, it has to be more extreme than the others. It’s not. If anything, it’s less.

Watch one of those shows say four times. Take some quotes from them. Then watch colbert and take some quotes from him. See if your friends can pick out which is which. (hint, if you picked well, they won’t be able to..)

So, yes, the conservative movement is that clueless. I am reasonablly sure a survey of viewers would find that what you consider your opinion of colbert to be depends on which side your on. If he would break character once, to say “You guys who think I’m really conservative are on crack” he could really make a diffrence right now. But he won’t. That would cut into his ratings.

Honestly, if he wasn't from the Daily Show, *I* wouldn't know. He Sounds no crazier than Coulter, O'Reilly, Hannity, or any of those people. The stuff they say is JUST AS BAD. We only know he's joking becuase we know where he came from, and occasionally I have my doubts.

It seems to me the oppurtunity he had at the white house confrence could have been alot more effective.

*holds up hand* I'm a fan of Stephen Colbert, but not his show. And I think part of the reason is what you stated above, now that I read it.

Don't know how Colbert is going to handle this on his show, but I can't wait to see John Stewart's reaction on the Daily Show. Remember his barely controlled glee over the Cheney shooting? I bet this will be right up there in energy.

Any monologue that starts with Stewart saying "Thank you, Jesus" is a reason to start recording. :)
