Date: 2006-05-25 01:55 am (UTC)Any definitive websites you can suggest for DR. Who noob? Is he a time traveler, a dimensional traveler, a space traveler, I am going straight to Wikipedia now to get myself educated.

Re: Ashamed
Date: 2006-05-25 11:54 am (UTC)Although I still don't buy that the Doctor's half human. I still hope he wakes up in the Tardis one day screaming and says "AH! I had the worst nightmare. I dreamt I was half human!"
:)

Date: 2006-05-25 12:23 pm (UTC)My general advice to fans regarding the half-human bit is what I call the "Han Shot First axiom": "If it bothers you that much, just ignore it. It ain't nohow important."
Re: Ashamed
Date: 2006-05-25 01:32 pm (UTC)The reason it bothers me is because it just rings of an executive decision by some stupid vice president of somethingorother at FOX who had never seen the show before. I could just see a bunch of balding, suited up people drinking coffee and gorging on Krispy Kreme donuts going "How can we make the audience relate to the Doctor more? I mean, they know nothing about him. I know! Let's make him half human! Let's just completely ignore the last 33 years of the series and try to make this alien more approachable to the public."
A lot of the stuff from that TV movie struck me as having been decided like that. It was a classic case of "too many cooks."
I believe that's also one of the reasons the new series kicks so much ass. The BBC is back in charge and they're doing it right. They don't have to answer to anyone else.
I am curious what they're going to do when the Doctor runs out of regenerations. The show's dogma always said a Time Lord can regenerate 12 times, which would allow for 13 actors to play the Doctor. We're at 10 now. Hopefully David Tennant will stick around for more than a season, but it's only a matter of time before we run out of Doctors. If the show's still going, what should they do about it?
Lots of discussion on this...
Date: 2006-05-25 05:11 pm (UTC)But another viewpoint is that the 12 regenerations were part of the dogma of "the universe must move forward" and things must change and die and new things be born and the Time Lords themselves imposed the 12 regeneration rule, so now there are no more Time Lords, basically the Doctor is free to regenerate as often as he wishes.
A third option is that "something wonderful" will happen, that the Face of Boe (or however you spell that) will tell him something that will reset the universe, we get Gallifrey and the Time Lords back and our Doctor is either reset to generation 1 (but with a new actor) or has his regenerations limit removed.
Re: Lots of discussion on this...
Date: 2006-05-25 05:32 pm (UTC)The time bubble idea is a possibility, but I don't think it's likely. I think it's more likely that since the Daleks survived the Time War that the Doctor will at some point decide that he should go back and save the rest of the Time Lords. Since whatever he did that wiped out the Time Lords was intended to kill the Daleks, and since that didn't work, it wasn't worth it.
The Time Lord rule of regeneration is also a possibility. I could see them doing that, assuming my idea above doesn't happen.
I think the third option you mentioned is probably the most likely.

Date: 2006-05-25 02:56 am (UTC)I'm ashamed to admit, it took a montage to make me realize just how... similar... some of the Companions have been to one another. Ah well.

Date: 2006-05-25 03:26 am (UTC)On the other hand I haven't seen the episode with Sarah in it yet. (I'm playing honest this time and waiting for SciFi to run them instead of using the almighty Bittorrent. ;-) I'm really looking forward to that one - she was one of my favorite companions. Next to Jo that is. ^_^
