Alex Toth Passes Away

sdelmonte alerts us to the news that one of the greats of comic and animation art has died. Alex Toth was 78. You'd know his stuff best from Hanna-Barbera animation: He did design work for Super Friends, Space Ghost, and Jonny Quest, among others.

What was your favorite episode of Jonny Quest? Mine was "Shadow of the Condor", the one with the German WWI flying ace living in South America who tricks Race into a dogfight... and Race has no ammo.

I never got to watch Johnny Quest when I was little because it was a "boy's" show. This is something else I will blame my grandmothers for, one or both of them did an incredably good job of stereotyping me. And now that I've found out its really pretty interesting it's really damned hard to find. Boomerang doesn't appear to by running Boomeraction at any time that I'm awake right now. :(

I think the only episode I really remember seeing is the one with the large mechanical spider things.

I liked Curse of Anubis, myself. I couldn't stand the Calcutta adventure, because the station I watched the show on repeated that episode all the damn time.

I can't remember the name, but the one with Dr. Zim's spider bot infiltrating the Air Force base was always a classic. A great, tense, scary episode.
