The new Superman Returns trailer. (If that doesn't work for you, try this page.)

I still say Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth look way too young to have all this history. I don't think he looks anywhere near bulked up enough. I don't like the changes to the costume.

But I'm finally feeling the Super. At least a little bit.

Oh, and, by the way... the release date has apparently been moved up from June 30 to June 28.

While I have to admit that I don't have nearly the problems you have with the new movie, I will note that my eight year old was watching the trailer and saying that he thought Superman was supposed to be a man, not a teenager and that he wasn't big enough.

*ponders the fact that personal aesthetics mean slim muscular builds are more interesting to Kosagi than big bulky musclebound types.*

I said earlier, FINALLY, this trailer makes me interested in seeing the movie. I finally see a glimmer of Superman.

Regarding Superman being bulked up, yes that's how he's always been drawn, but let's consider.

Muscles grow and "bulk" from strain and effort.

Supes never really needed to strain his muscles much, since his amazing strength always compensated.

Thus, if we were to bring science into this (!!!) Superman would not be the huge muscleman he's been drawn as, especially in the post-Crisis-One era, since he would not have had much chance to bulk up since his teenage years.

Okay, I'm reading way too much into this now.

Yes, you are. ;) My thought on the matter is that Supes is iconic. He's always been portrayed as a physically perfect and rather damned imposing specimen (and, yes, of course, he's an alien, but still a humanoid one).

Part of the reason Wally Cox worked so well as the voice of Underdog was the irony that it was Wally Cox, one of the least physically imposing people in the history of the world, and you can't hear that voice without picturing him.

In my view, Supes should be a human wall. He just stands there, and everybody looks at him. (Unless Wonder Woman and Power Girl are making out over in the corner no no no no no.)

A complete aside, but my mother went to High School with Wally Cox

I've been told Wally Cox is a not-horribly distant cousin of mine (whatever generations removed).

We should let you direct movies.

It would save money, you could also compose the music.

Hmmmm. The scope of the film finally feels right for Superman. The old Williams score (as much as I love it) is gone and we get a sense (I think) of the Ottman score. The Lexitude of Mr. Spacey seems perfect. And yes, Kid Superman doesn't seem entirely as wrong as he did.

Still not getting my hopes up. Nope, not one bit.

Well, a little.

Does anybody have a better link for this? For some reason my pals in the upper I/T echelon at $work are blocking those links. :-(

Thanks!

The Windows Media version worked but the Quicktime one didn't. I think it's because some of those links come off the Apple website and they're blocking the iTune store here at work.

Now on-topic - I'm not sure. I see a little more Superman than before but there are snapshots where he looks _damn_ young. I think it'll all depend on his abilities as an actor. Period.

I do like Spacey's line about gods though. ;-)

I think the actor was chosen because he has a slight resemblance to Christopher Reeve.

It was not clear to me who the teenage girl was in the trailer. :)

The trailer has sold me. Kevin Spacey will make this movie worth watching. Certainly a role he was born to play.
