Now and then a romantic comedy just feels right to me. Not often. French Kiss was a prime example.

I think I've got another one.

Check out the trailer for The Holiday.

(Warning: It is entirely likely that any one of the Ain't It Cool News talkbackers regarding this film is way, way more pathetic than Kate Winslet's character will ever be. Because, bluntly, that level of fanboy complaining about the believability of the goofy set-up of a romantic comedy doesn't deserve a ticket to see a Kate Winslet movie.)

I watched the trailer the other day and it made me smile. A lovely cast with a set up ripe for fun. I'm thinking Date Film.

I love Winslet, never disappoints. I must admit a certain knee jerk reaction to Jack Black, expecting come manic goofball action. But I've come to appreciate Black lately, having seen him in several non-goodball rolls so it could work.

On the other side of the pound.. Cameron Diaz and Jude Law... dear lord, could you find two more good looking people to hook up?? They're sucking the beauty out of the rest of the world. Again, good actors both and should be fun to watching them play.

I'm pencilling this one into my "Okay, I'd see that" list.

That looks like a lot of fun! It looks like the rare romantic comedy that doesn't rely on one or both of the main characters to be flaming idiots. I like!

Speaking of romantic comedies that fly under the radar, did you ever see "Kate & Leopold"? Hugh Jackman and a minimally annoying Meg Ryan in a charming time travel romance.

I didn't get to that one, no. Which was kinda weird, because I love both of 'em. I was put off by the overly predictable premise.

I adored French Kiss, and Kate and Leopold shared a lot of the same chemistry. It was truly a beautiful film.

And thanks for the heads-up on this one: it looks sweet.

I highly recommend it as a date movei. Not because the plot is amazingly new, but because you get to watch Hugh Jackman be charming and witty and funny while Meg Ryan doesn't play her usual bundle of neuroses (the director and script, thank ghod, have her toned down). Also, Bradley Whitford (Josh from The West Wing) has a role in this one as a heel.

Y'see, I personally believe that all conventional romantic comedies were made obsolete by the movie "Love Actually". I'm pretty sure that movie covered all the bases very well.

Then again, this movie has Jack Black in it...

From the director of "Something's Gotta Give," "What Women Want," AND "The Parent Trap."

No thanks.

You want a bearable romcom, watch "Love Actually" again.

Sigh...gotta admit, Pickles and I just love the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romcoms The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates. I don't know what it is, but those two have a chemistry together that clicks with us. Both of those movies we can just watch over and over, and there aren't many movies that BOTH of us can watch like that...

Any word on when this will be out? The website didn't mention a date.

Thanks for the heads-up!
