The original Red Sonja, and the artist and co-creator for Elf*Quest. (If you want a slightly more coherent intro to the Whole Damn Epic Saga, try Wikipedia.)

Now let's separate the men from the fanboys: Who's your favorite character in Elf*Quest? You might think mine is Rayek, but actually it's a toss-up between Skywise and Nightfall -- the crazy dreamer and the fiercely devoted lover.

(Thanks to Mark Evanier for the heads-up.)

...and who in their right mind would like Rayek?

Some of us did. Until Kings of the Broken Wheel, anyway. Mind you, right about then, the last worthwhile wheels were popping off the whole series anyway, so...

I was one of the founding members of the Strongbow Appreciation Society, so maybe Strongbow. Possibly also Ember, possibly also Tyleet. I like Tyleet a lot.

Leetah, actually - independent, knows herself, can be surprised when she grows beyond herself, and despite that is *willing* to grow beyond herself.

Skywise and Nightfall are good runners-up for me, as is Pike. Find a way to make booze out of it, and he's right there.

Hmmm ... for me, it was One-Eye, then Treestump, with Clearbrook following at third. They all have qualities (like levelheadedness under pressure, and the ability to calmly support and advise their leader, for instance) that I hope I have when I grow up ... ;]

Oh, and I still have to remake this top so that the dangly bits of the sleeves are long enough. It turned out that (all those years ago, when I first meant to make it and bought the fabric) I didn't buy enough of the green, and I could no longer find the same color. Now I have more, in a slightly different shade of green. ...but that would mean entirely reworking it, which I haven't convinced myself to do, yet. Don't wear it often enough to justify.

OneEye, of the guys. Bawled when he died. Venka, of the girls. Took a hell of a lot of moxie to not end up obsessed like her mom. Gah...Did I really start reading ElfQuest 19 years ago?!?

Ditto... had fun trying to keep up, kinda lost interest though when it all got far too tangled after they discovered the High-ones castle.

Really lost it after the sea-elves or whatever they heck they were called.

In my humble opinion, there are way, way too many "extra" stories. The core epic, i.e., the twenty issues of the original series, are all you really need. In particular, no one needs any issue that Barry Blair had anything to do with.

I have to pick Ember as my favorite character. She reminds me a lot of my daughters, perhaps because we fans got to read about Ember growing up.

Skywise, always and forever.

I first started reading EQ in middle school. I was a fan of Xanth at the time, and when he wrote the girl who had been hit by a drunk driver into the series as an ElfQuest elf, I had to find out what all the fuss was. So I bought the Blood of Ten Chiefs anthologies, and enjoyed them. And then I found out about the graphic novels...

I didn't get an allowance at the time, but my mom did give me ten dollars per week for lunch money. I don't think I ate at school for the rest of the year, but I still have all of those books.

I love Skywise. Even though I've always rooted for Cutter, Skywise just has even more layers to him. I still get sniffy when I read the issue where his wolf gets into a fight with one of the desert wolves and he has to put it down. Damn.

No question about it - Skywise.

I started reading the original comics, starting with #4 or 5. It was right after the series was profiled in Dragon Magazine. The three month wait between issues was hellish - I remember spending the summer between 6th & 7th grade waiting on the front steps and listening for the mailman.

Just a few years ago, my niece had one of the graphic novels (one of the colorized ones) confiscated by a teacher because "comic books are not appropriate for school" I wonder if that teacher ever bothered to skim through it - she'd probably still consider it inappropriate, but for completely different reasons

Skywise. I mean, he's the astronomer. And the Best Bud, and the wiseass. No contest. *hugs him*

...and yes, I adore Nightfall and Redlance too.

Of the minor characters: probably Kahvi.

Of the villains: Winnowill, absolutely. 'Course she hasn't got a lot of competition.
...maybe Two-Edge. To the extent that he qualifies as a villain.

I have to throw my hat in with Skywise. Not so much because of his name and the character traits it implies, but I've always been a fan of the #2 guy - the loyal friend, the first officer, the go-to man (or woman).

But I also am a big fan of Redlance, Ember, and Cutter.

I'll vote for Skywise as well (silver hair, yeah). My elf on TwoMoons MUSH had silver hair cos of him (not due to blood or anything, just cos dammit, it's cool).

I also love Treestump, with Cutter taking third place.

Yeah. :)

Either Skywise or Treestump for me. They both have an underlying, though different, practicality on life. Though skywise has more whimsy. And of course, no one can say that Two-Edge isn't one of the great villains. Hope I got that name right, the books are in a room with someone sleeping.
