Dear Leader and his Echo Chamber are confronting the direst threat to America today: they want a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. (Never mind that it can't pass and it won't help.)

Naturally, those in favor of, erm, espousing this cause are in favor of protecting the institution of marriage. That's what they keep saying, anyway.

Well, those wacky funsters at AmericaBlog decided to call them on it. Literally.

Take your time, meander down the page, enjoy the comments. Not in any way at all work safe.

He asks if Rick Santorum has ever had a blow job. I'm thinking the answer must be no. Of course, Rick is too concerned about having sex with dogs.

Maybe the question should be ... has Rick ever had a blow job from a dog ???

Can't look; I'm at work now

But I will admit that as much as I love being in a monogamous 1-man/1-woman relationship, I find the 'protect the family' argument a bit lacking. How many heterosexuals are divorced? If they REALLY want to protect the family isn't THAT where to start? (And I wonder how loudly any & all divorced pro-family Republicans would have yelled if they'd been told that they could never divorce in the name of "protecting the family").

The Defense of Marriage Act creates an exception to the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution so that no state can force its laws of marriage on another.

Um, doesn't that mean DOMA is unconstitutional on its face...nice of Sen. Reid to illustrate that *heh*

We won't know until the Supreme Court rules on it. So far they've dodged that bullet.

Yeah, it *should* be unconstitutional, but so should the obscenity laws.

Of course the consitutional amendment won't pass: it never was supposed to. They could make it a law that declares marriage is between a man and a woman, but they set the bar higher. The Republicans don't want to actually win that battle, because as long as they're fighting the battle then people will keep voting for them. If they win it, there's no more battle and the voters actually look at the other stuff the congresspeople are voting for. They want a political battle without end, to give them a permanent majority.

I wonder if it won't bite them in the ass this time around, though. Every news story I've heard, seen or read on the matter includes the line, "The amendment is considered to have little chance of passing," or words to that effect, which strongly implies to me that the American people are going to eventually get the message that Congress is wasting their time. The media narrative is that this is explicitly a grandstanding ploy, and I wonder if the mainstream public is really interested in putting up with blatant grandstanding at the moment.

"Dear Leader and the Echo Chamber" sounds like the name of a wannabe pop band- the sort that plays passable covers of 80s rock hits, with one or two craptastic 'originals' to fill out the gig.

Don't mind me. I'm just in Boggle Mode with all this hate legislation...

I'm glad to see that Bush has nothing else to worry about.

Since he is unable to fix what is actually wrong with the country, he has to try to "fix" the morals of a small percentage of people.
