Off to AnthroCon

I've been burning CD-Rs for most of the past two days, in anticipation of AnthroCon in Pittsburgh this weekend. As far as I know, here's where I will be:

• Thursday 8:00 pm -- Filking with Tom Smith (Westmoreland)
• Thursday 10:00 pm -- open filking (Westmoreland)
• Friday 3:00 pm -- Instafilking (Somerset) (I'm not actually listed on this panel, but it is my stock-in-trade, after all)
• Friday 9:00 pm -- Introduction to Filk (Allegheny I)
• Saturday 3:30 pm -- Concert (S. of P. Ballroom)
• Saturday 9:00 pm -- open filking (don't know yet if they need me to do anything for the Masquerade)

If anything changes, I'll update it.

So. Who's gonna be there?

It was never on my radar screen this year, but I do wonder if it would be something I would enjoy, or if I would be spending a lot of money to feel out of place for a weekend. I enjoy anthropomorphic art, but I don't get the fursuit thing.

How many filkers show up?

No idea. This is the first time I've been, and all at the behest of Uncle Kage. I know mrgoodwraith will be there, and markbernstein, scs11, unkbar, and several other Dorsai filkers; apart from that, no clue.

I only wish. I'd give much to see what creative fires burn at AC with you, fursuiters and puppets all in the same room. (Be sure to tell the puppet VIXIE that she's only second place - she loves it.) Alas, nobody can go to every con. But do have a great time over there.

How ironic is it that I didn't know it only takes 2.5 hours to get to Pittsburgh? And I have the weekend off for once.

Anthrocon is about as specialized a convention as you can get that would ask you to be a guest, even more so than an Amiga users convention. I'll be curious to read your report on it as well. If you ignore the more sordid "freak show" aspects of it, it's pretty much like any other science fiction convention.
