In about an hour, the Food Network will debut an Iron Chef special, Super Chef Battle: Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali vs. Bobby Flay and White House chef Cristeta "Cris" Comerford. It's on at 8:00 p.m. EST, and again at midnight, and a few more times on Thursday. I'll watch it as soon as I can download it, and we can talk about it here.

Can't help it. I'm rooting for Mario.

ETA: A diary at dKos has pictures and video.

Since Scripps and Cablevision are having a stand-off, when you do download it, please let me know the link, so that I may do so, too.

Thanks!

This, as my current housemate won't get cable because they want at least a one-year committment and we may not be here that long.

Thanks for reminding me Tom, I smooth forgot. Did you ever watch the last season of Top Chef? I remember you talking about previous seasons.

For some reason, I never got to it this year. A lot of it was con travel and such, combined with the fact that I was writing novella-length ep summaries. ;) Next season, I'll get back into it, and meantime I have to see this season so [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear, [livejournal.com profile] jss1113, and [livejournal.com profile] bedlamhouse can freakin' talk about it around me.

To be fair, we could talk about it around him. We'd just have to be very very careful not to let slip spoiler details about challenges, winners, losers, guest judges, special locations, or other production details.

Or make him write a new verse to Spoiler Alert.

That looks like fun!

I loathe Bobby Flay, so almost any opposing side gets my vote. This one certainly does.

My two favorites on Iron Chef are Morimoto... and whoever's on the other side of Bobby Flay.

(Morimoto: the best ambassador of the United States to Japan... and the best ambassador of Japan to the United States.)

Morimoto is AWESOME. Damn, is he EVER going to open up one of his restaurants here in LA? (headdesk)

Just fired up the DVR and started to watch.

Oh yeah, I'll always bet on Mario and against Flay.

HEY.. I just noticed that Lagasse's chef's coat reads "IRON CHEF Lagasse" - Hmm..

So...

... I did not imagine that. Hmm indeed. Maybe Emril is coming back from where ever he has been. Travel channel last I heard.

Missed the first 30 minutes or so, and had it on as background noise for the last 90.

And while I won't spoil it, I will say that the winning team had an Iron Chef on it.

Since I no longer get those high-falootin' channels, I won't get to see anymore "Iron Chef America," I'm afraid, so I'll have to settle for your colorful commentary.

I wasn't about to pay more than treble to keep the same service ($20.95 v. $77.75).

Unfortunately, my extreme dislike for Bobby Flay always manages to override my desire to watch Iron Chef, so I rarely watch the Iron Chef America version (pretty much only the episodes that I know he's not going to be in).

I'm not sure what it is about Bobby Flay, but he's one of two people on television that I just can't bring myself to watch (the other being Horatio Caine from CSI: Miami).

Interesting show. I loved the secret ingredient, although it would be hard to describe this episode as "Battle Anything You Can Pick Out Of The White House Garden"
