I would say, laugh, except... don't laugh. Cher has set up a web site, Operation Helmet, for upgrading our troops' protective headgear. As it says on the site, "Regardless of how one feels about the war, we all want the troops home alive and well. Politics has no place in supporting the troops!"

I can't fault her for this.

She's right, reguardless of your feelings about the war, no one I know can fault doing everthing in our power to protect the soldiers and help them make it through safe.

I wonder how long it will be before someone puts up a site saying that they heartily encourage not supporting the troops in any way, shape or form?

During the first Gulf excursion comedian Bill Hicks said that he was in the uncomfortable position of being for the war but against the troops.

He's dead now.

Is it okay if we only support the troops who haven't been indicted?

Leavenworth is pretty much not in the line of fire, so I guess it's OK.

Somehow, this reminds me of a bumpersticker

"It will be a better world when the schools are fully funded, and the government has to put on a bake sale to buy a bomber"

Sadly, instead of cutting back the big ticket items, they seem to be scrimping on personal protection. Zero for two, I suppose.

I immediately thought of this, too. Also remember thinking of that when the controversy over vehicle armor raged, and when there were literally bake sales to buy troops body armor.

Even if you're pro-war, you have to hate how this administration is messing everything up.

Good for her. (I can't believe I just uttered those words about *Cher*.)
