GAFilk, Or Not

Sometime tomorrow, I was planning on hitting the road for GAFilk.

See, I'm supposed to be at MarsCon in Virginia next weekend. My thought was, I'll go down to GAFilk, see everyone, get some hugs, play for awhile, then continue off to my dad's in north central Florida, and approach MarsCon from the south. Conveniently getting out of a Michigan January for a week and a half.

I do not know if I am going to do this.

The lesser problem is, I am fighting off a bit of a cold. (I saw my doctor on Tuesday, and she confirmed that's really all it is, a cold. I also got my flu and H1N1 shots, so I am now impervious, ha ha.) I don't want to give my friends whatever it is I have.

Much more to the point, the weather forecasts along the trip look awful. Literally, the entire I-75 corridor, from Findlay, OH down to Florida, is for not merely snow and cold, but a lot of snow and some deep cold.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I might try to skirt out of town tomorrow morning. I might wait till Friday, arriving at GAFilk Saturday.

I might say the heck with it, and hope nothing bad comes before I head off to MarsCon next week.

Grumble.

Not many plans for myself. I'm getting ready for a major show so I plan to paint, print and matt a lot. If the weather even vaugly co operates Marg and I will head out to try and hunt down snowy owls and see if we can add Lapland Lonspurs to our life lists.

Much of Saturday will be Conflikt sound crew prep. Our GoH this year is this guy Tom Smith, you may have heard of him? ;)

Well, I'm still headed for GAFilk, although my plans have been rearranged a bit by Russ Field effects (see my LJ for details). I third the recommendation to leave early if you decide to go. If you bail, I'll miss seeing you, but I do understand your reasoning.

We're still on track for GAFilk, where I'm hoping to see lots of really cool people whom I didn't get to see on account of missing the Filk Blowout Party Of The Century (aka OVFF 25).

I'd have considered trekking down to MarsCon VA (only 3 hrs from here), but I'm spending that weekend on another business trip.

I'll be trying to sneak around the southern edge of the weather area, getting to GaFilk.

It is supposed to snow between here and Birmingham overnight tonight, but not all that much. By the time we head out after supper tomorrow even southern-type highway departments should have things cleared.

Hey, a practical offer - if you're headed south and it gets bad, or you're just in need of a break, I'm in Berea, exit 77 right off of 75 in Kentucky. We get a *lot* of Michigan folks stopping in because apparently it fits in with the biological programming - they get this far then really need a break. Lots of people stop and eat at PapaLeno's...good stuff. If you're going by Berea (about 30 mi south of Lexington) and in need of a break, weather gets bad and you need crash space, or you'd just like to meet up and see a friendly face at the Artisan Center, let me know? Welllll.... my plan for the weekend looks like Gafilk, regardless, cause the other concom members would probably be a bit irked otherwise. *grin* We'll really miss you if you don't make it, but if you're feeling sick by all means take care of yourself. This cold spell couldn't be worse timed, but at least we look not to be getting as much snow as some folks were predicting. (said very quietly, looking around to make sure the universe isn't listening with an evil glint in its eye)
