Jim Baen Passes Away

A great loss to the SF community: Publisher and editor Jim Baen, who suffered a stroke a couple of weeks ago, passed away yesterday.

David Drake has a tribute to Mr. Baen.

I was commissioned the other day to write a tribute song for him; I'll get that done as quickly as possible.

Oh wow. Damn. I didn't know he'd had a stroke. This is awful.

He really did amazing things for the literary SF world. I partied with him and John Ringo at StellarCon a few years back.

Baen Books is a hell of a legacy to leave behind, though. I'm sure he knew that, but I wish we all could have told him so. *sigh*

The obit written by David Drake posted on Baen's Universe. They sent this link out to the people on the mailing list. (I had purchased the first 6 issues of the online zine.) On a quick look, it appears to be the same as the tribute that Tom already has a link to.
