Jul. 4th, 2006 04:56 am230 years ago today, a group of colonists who really didn't want to separate from their mother country signed a declaration of their intent to do precisely that.
That day, and that document, changed the world.
Now, America's freedom is under attack from within. But there's still so much to love about this country. And we can still take it back. Heck, we've even got our own King George.

The text of the Declaration of Independence was indeed adopted on July 4, 1776.
The copy in the National Archives with John Hancock's big ol' signature (the "engrossed copy") was actually signed on August 2, 1776.
But leaving such minutiae aside, happy Independence Day to all. Remember what it means.
