[livejournal.com profile] the_mad_elf sent me a link to a really cool video, which you may have seen -- I hadn't -- of a guy playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the ukelele. Like, staggeringly well. Like Joe Giacoio, but on a uke. There was no credit at the original link site, but it didn't take long to find one.

Ladies and gentlemen, Jake Shimabukuro.

Have you seen the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain's rendition of Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit"?

Being a child who watched too much Sesame Street, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the ukelele. But that was just amazing!

Every now and then you get to see someone unpack what's really in a piece of music you thought familiar, and at times like this, it's like watching a crystal chandelier emerge from an attache case. Thank you for providing a moment of amazement.

This is the third time this week I've heard a story about a ukulele. First there was one on "To the Best of Our Knowledge" http://wpr.org/book/060723a.html and today there was one on "All Things Considered"
