You recall that I'm not happy with my host, Surpass Hosting. I have problems with them now and again, and it makes me crazy how inaccessible they are. Well, it's finally hit the last straw: the download scripts aren't being sent out for purchases, and I can't seem to send them manually. Other web sites there have had problems as well.

The biggest difficulty is time. I have a fair amount going on today (including trying to finish up this week's iTom song as soon as get done with this post) and likely can't do all the final set-up and transfer to a new host until at least tomorrow morning.

But I am gonna do it. This can't go on.

If anyone wants to buy anything downloadable today, thank you so much, and I promise I'll get it to you as quickly as possible.

If I have my druthers, by this time tomorrow TSO will be at a new home.

Is the before or after you pitch it and head out to sea?

I'm in the process of moving my stuff over too. Devo Spice recommended godaddy.com, so that's what I'm checking out. Their prices are disturbingly good, and their support line people not only speak English, but are genuinely helpful.

I can't say anything beyond that yet, because I'm in the beginning stages of setting this up. But so far so good.

I recommend GoDaddy.com for registering domains, but not for hosting. Oh dear God not for hosting!

"Sure, we'll give you a domain and a shitload of bandwidth for $4.99 a month. You want email? Oh that's another $2. You want to FTP to your site? Why didn't you say so! That's another $4." etc. etc. etc.

One of Jen's friends is hosting with GoDaddy and is now looking for another host because they've nickel and dimed her to much that she's actually paying more with them than the company she left.

For hosting I recommend Intelics. (www.intelics.com) Their site is cheap and cheesy because I haven't had time to redesign it for them yet. :)

I will second the warning on godaddy and increase it -- see my post from April of last year. (http://blaisedec.livejournal.com/10026.html)

I can HIGHLY recommend the guys at www.apisnetworks.com - I refer every single one of my business clients to them for email and web hosting, and I would not hesitate to send you there as well. (Assuming their hosting packages - which are quite inexpensive, and somewhat customizable work for your needs.)

I warn you away from: Lunarpages and Godaddy.

Have had nothing but horrific experiences with both. Lunarpages is frequently having issues, and good luck ever getting support @ godaddy on the phone when you have a problem.

Godaddy has also given some people I know grief when they lost their account info as well as wehn someone hacked their account. And these people aren't technical duffers either they're I/T people that just can't host at home.

Seconding the warning on Lunarpages!

We moved from Lunarpages (ptooi!) to Speakeasy.net. I'm very pleased with Speakeasy. Their tech people (NOT salespeople) talked to me for about 45 minutes before I signed up, so that I could make sure their stuff met our needs. Every time I've called with issues I've gotten a reasonable and quick resolution, and (this was key for us) they don't have a hard limit for emails sent per hour, and long as overall bandwidth usage is reasonable.
