Thanks for posting this, Tom -- another friend already mentioned it on her blog (proving that LJ is getting the word out!) and I made a small donation in memory of the lady's poor pets. As has been said, every little bit helps after a disaster!

According to the release, Lea and her children survived because one of her children heard the smoke alarm and were able to get out in time.

Everyone, please, please check your smoke alarms. It doesn't take long and could save your life.

Heh. The battery in one of mine died yesterday. Had the replacement right there.
