Sadness. Former Texas governor Ann Richards died Wednesday evening at the age of 73. She was a Democratic stalwart, a brash and bold woman, and someone who cared a lot about her state and her country. She will be missed.

I voted for her in one of the first elections in which I could vote, and was quite enormously POed when Shrub beat her. She will be quite enormously missed.

She will be sadly, sadly missed as both a strong progressive voice and a breath of fresh air.

Aw, that's a shame. I *always* liked her - thought we would've been MUCH better off if SHE'D been the Texas governor who ran for president instead of the Shrub.

Damn.

What is remembered, lives.

I thought she was a great woman and when she lost to The Shrub, I was pissed. Anytime she gave an interview or was on TV, I watched it, as I loved to hear her talk.

Oddly enough, when I heard it on the radio, they gave a great quote: "If I had known that I was going to be a one-term govenor, I would have raised more Hell."

That pretty much summed her up.

During their race for governor, she said one of the best things that's ever been said about W: "Poor George, he was born with a silver foot in his mouth!"

Actually.....

That was said about George I. It was back in 1988 at the Democratic National Convention. They played that clip as it was one of her signature one-liners.

Another loss to the liberal side and the Democratic Party. I moved away from Texas too soon to vote for her, and it galls me, because I would have done so in a hot picosecond. Goodbye, Miz Richards, and thanks for trying.

Dadgummit! The collective IQ of Texas just dropped a point or two, just like when Barbara Jordan and Raff Yarborough died in the same month.

I wish she'd held office longer.

Well, at least there's still Hightower and Ivins to keep trying to make Texas wise.

I got to meet her once... she spoke at my college graduation.

Perhaps one of the greatest thing to ever come out of Texas along with BBQ and Chuck Norris, Ann Richards was everything a Democratic politican ought to be with a double helping of that ol' Texas Courage.

Ride on, Ma'am. We'll try and take it from here.
