Operation Rescue West loses its tax-exempt status.

I do tend to agree with John at AmericaBlog on this one -- it's an attempt to appeal to moderate swing voters just before the election. Of course, it involves alienating their base, so tactically it may not be so bright.

The base isn't going to vote for Democrats because of this... but they might stay home instead of voting Republican.

All the same, bwa ha ha indeed.

More importantly, they might stay home instead of knocking on doors, raising money, and spending election day driving their church to the polls, running a phone bank to exhort their voters to the polls, or jamming the phone lines that Democrats are using for their phone bank like they did last time. I've heard a number of at least somewhat objective sounding talking heads say that the Republicans are so successful because their organization is so effective, and it's the base that gives the organization its foot soldiers.

Precisely. The ostensibly delicate, actually clumsy stomping "dance" the Repubs have done for so long is being undone by their own Michael Flathead, Dubya. Let's just hope the music doesn't stop until he finds himself alone on the stage with his foot in a bucket.
