That's very cool! I'm glad to hear that she's doing well... I realized at InCon that I hadn't seen her around cons (the limited number that I've been to, which is admittedly a small subset) in over a year and I was wondering if she was okay.

Thanks for the link to the article. It doesn't surprise me since Renee is a wonderful story teller, which shows in her songs. It was a shame that the article didn't mention her music.

Okay this is totally off topic but I have a filk finding question for you, do you know where I can find a copy of or a lyrics list for “the last of grand moff tarkin’s crew” by LA filkharmonic?

I can only remember half of it and it is driving me batshit insane.

Sorry. You might try Lee Gold at Xenofilkia.

Its in the purple LA Filkharmonic's songbook (Return of Massteria!), page 57. The LA Filkharmonics put out 3 songbooks that I know of.

Contact me via email -

I have the songbooks on my desk due to a request for another filkharmonics song. (Normally they are sitting in my songbook boxes.)

Please note, if you are planning on putting the song on a CD, you will NOT get permission. In his will, he refused parody permissions. I just got informed of that from Nick Smith of the LA Filkhamonics.

I can also provide an mp3 of the same song, if prefered.

I do know that Eric Gerds also plays it on Filk.com's radio station every so often.

If you're still looking, I think it's in one of the NESFA hymnals.

Holy shit! That's awesome! I knew Renee Alper years ago -- we were both in Tolkien fandom together back in the '70's.

Well, hey -- she'll be at OVFF (http://www.ovff.org/) on Saturday.

My wife, Amy, attended that performance of "Torch Girl." I am trying to persuade her to write up a short review of the play as a comment here, but Amy is resisting my efforts. I have read an early draft of "Torch Girl," and it seemed nice, but Renee's longer play, "Roll Model," seems more fun.
