iTom Podcasts
Sep. 15th, 2006 06:15 pmI'm trying to figure out podcasting the iTom MP3s directly without screwing up the Feedburner feed -- they've got two different mechanisms, SmartCast and SmartFeed, which don't work together. I may end up submitting stuff to podcasting sites manually. In any case, I've started with PodSafe and Podcast Alley. Please do let me know if you actually find me there.

And I would dispute the iTunes issues...but the newest version has a major audio bug that I can't stand, even though there is a workaround until/if they fix it, so I'm with you, sadly.
I've used Feedburner and iTunes myself for my own long-dormant podcast, so I know it works. ;)

Date: 2006-09-16 12:23 am (UTC)Interestingly enough, iTunes 7.0[.0, yes, I know, and shame on me for running a .0 release of any software] has a feature to grab album covers where the iTunes Music Store (iTMS) has them — and it had the cover for And They Say I've Got Talent on-file. They didn't have the others, nor other things I'd expect them to have, so that really struck me....

Date: 2006-09-16 03:09 pm (UTC)And as for iTunes being bug-ridden crap, are you sure it's not microsoft? I know several people who had problems with iTunes, until they reinstalled (or removed) windows media player, then all of those iTunes bugs mysteriously disappeared. Remember. for a few years whenever you tried to run quicktime on windows, an error message popped up saying that quicktime would not run properly and asking if you wanted to uninstall it, yet if you chose to run quicktime after all, it played without a hitch (microsoft marketing at it's best). Which isn't to say that iTunes doesn't have problems occasionally (my old iPod would glitch with some podcasts until they came out with a new version last year).

Date: 2006-09-16 03:38 pm (UTC)I'm gonna do a reinstall in a couple of weeks, and when I do I'm going to run roughshod over every media player I can find. I'm sick of Windows Media and its frickin' DRM. I hate QuickTime's insane configuration. I despise Real's quirkiness with its own goddamn file format. And I hate all of them for their tropism to take over your machine. I'm getting rid of all my Roxio software, I'm dumping Quintessential; I'm undecided about WinAmp. As fas as iTunes goes, I have attempted installing it on three separate occasions, one of which was after a clean Windows install. It has savaged my computer and hogged resources every time, and given me no benefit I can discern. I don't need or want it.
All I want is something to play MP3s and WMVs and not fuck up my system while doing so.

Date: 2006-09-16 04:05 pm (UTC)I have it loaded with my complete audio collection of about 9500 songs and it does take a moment on a p4-2.4gig, 512mb ram, XP Pro SP-2 to load the directory in, but once done, it plays fine for me.

Date: 2006-09-17 02:36 am (UTC)Oh, well, as long as you let me know here I'll grab them every time.
As for music players, one of the people I correspond with regularly had similar problems and I remembered he said they mostly cleared up after he uninstalled windows media player, so i shot off a quick email for more details and he replied that at first it was an unmanagable beast, but after he uninstalled wmp and tried to reinstall itunes it worked smoothly, only grabbed a fraction of the ram it used to, and ran quicker than any other program he had been using at the time. However, he still prefers winamp for his usual listening enjoyment, mainly using itunes to manage his ipod.
