Next Saturday, Oct. 7 -- the Saturday of 'Clave, in fact -- is this year's 24 Hour Comics Day. The past two years, I've written an entire album each time, and it's a blast.

I'm not doing it this year.

Simple mechanics: I have commission jobs to finish. I'm also committed to work on the Girl Genius musical. Every weekend between now and Thanksgiving is booked, most of them with cons or house concerts, some of them involving decent travel. And, I'm cranking out a new song every week anyway. Not to mention any and all concerns of Real Life.

I still love the idea; I was trying to figure out how I could do it amidst all this stuff. But it's just not gonna be practical for me to do so. Not this year.

Which doesn't mean I haven't got an idea of creating my own riff on the basic concept. In the words of Crow T. Robot, "There's no tradition like a new tradition".

So do it late. Who said it had to be on time?? Ok... Your busy from now thru Thanksgiving. Are you doing anything the week after Thanksgiving?? Run it then. I have missed contributing on the previous two and was looking forward to contributing this year.

And as you said, make it a 24hour filk song challenge day. A new tradition.

Well, guys, I'll probably post on it next week, but the general idea is this: Sometime this winter -- December may not work, January might, February may be perfect but I'm still pursuing a gig or two -- I'm gonna declare an Album Weekend. I'll solicit ideas, and spend Friday writing, Saturday arranging, and Sunday recording and mixing. Whatever I've got goes on sale Monday morning. Might have a theme, might not. And the idea of mentioning it early includes finding out what would be a good time for other folks to do the same thing.

We could have a buttload of new music that weekend.

Sounds like a fun idea!

(And if a masochist participant only had the brain-power for, let's say, a couple of things...well, two trumps zero, right?)

Absolutely. I'm not sure I'd get away with more than eight myself, and that's only because I'm getting pretty good with Band in a Box. That and SuperJam save my life with this. The song is done, by the way, and after a couple of errands (and a mental break) I'll come back and record it. It's a final hit of summer in honor of the loss of our national soul. ;)

Sound good. Please DON'T make it oposite Boskone or the British filk convention if you use February.

Another idea, you mean, because as far as I know the 24 Hour Filk Project is yours too.

Looking forward to it--at your convenience, of course.

A Girl Genius musical? Not too long ago I had commented I didn't think there was any way they could possibly make that comic live-action, and here you go proving me wrong! I am soooo looking forward to the results!

Well, if you do find time to think up new music, maybe this can provide inspiration...

Last night I had a dream I was at a Con where you were performing, and several filk-fans were going on and on about your latest piece;

"Bring-An-Elder-God-To-Work Day"

What can I say? I get weird dreams when I take Melatonin.

Holy cow, you're busy. Stay sane! Take care of yourself! Eat chocolate and do something decadent this weekend. Hugs, eh*?

*"eh" - Canuck vocab enhancement that increases effect of aforesaid hugs.

Every time I hear 'Heat of the Blood', I want to know how the story ends... You have no excuse now, you know. You've sucessfully created a musical (Last Hero). I think you should pull it together and finish it when you have a chance.

At this point, I've got two stories fighting for ascendancy: the vampire-intensive one, and the not-vampire-intensive one. The original male voice was a sorcerous character; one of the gimmicks I came up with was that basically half a dozen villains were doing a maypole dance trying to be the first one to control Tourmaline (the female, sung by Anne). But I've come to realize that, while I could do it, it would be Wagnerian in scale. So I'm leaning towards the other. Lotsa dark nasty romance in both versions. No matter what, it'll take awhile... but I am working on it.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

(Although honestly, I think the current storyline has dragged on way too long. Give us Agatha back, already! Never thought I'd be so glad to see Klaus...)

Oh, I dunno. I'm having a great time -- literally every new page has twists and turns. On the other hand, I definitely agree: Give us Agatha back.

Also, I must tell you that Anne, Les, and several other ladies I know think Klaus is Teh Hot.

Which leads into something from a thread last week, when you asked "What does 'Teh' mean, apart from misspelling?" As far as I know, it effectively means "the embodiment of". It's a misspelling that's been assimilated as leetspeek, much the same way that "filk" became accepted. If anyone has a more authoritative take on it, I'd be glad to hear it.

I guess it's just been starting to feel to me like it was stuck in limbo... thank goodness Wooster finally showed up!

And Klaus has his moments, but I want to see Agatha back with Gil...

Thanks for the answer! It's popped up a bit too frequently to be accidental, so I thought there must be some other meaning I wasn't familiar with.
