So here I is at ConFlikt. The train trip was very pleasant, my liaison Jen prompt and splendid and stuff, and my first view of Mt. Ranier really frickin' impressive. Damn, that is a huge, beautiful, horizon-filling mountain.

The only issue at this point is sleep or lack thereof, 'cause the train bed isn't that comfy -- but I've already been situated in a nice hotel room, hung with lovely people (including Alexander James Adams, [profile] jenrose1 and [profile] admnaismith), had fine Pad Thai, and received an adorable li'l mini stuffed bear from the concom so Da Bear has a new baby brudder.

Looks as if it'll be a busy weekend -- I'm doing some recording this afternoon, Opening Ceremonies, there are concerts tonight, I've got a panel or two tomorrow, my main set is tomorrow night, and of course the open filking. The really good thing is I don't have to leave until Monday afternoon, which means I can sleep a lot Sunday night.

How's your weekend lookin'?

Wish we could be there. You are in for a great weekend.

We have a birthday party for a friend, and some TV to catch up on, and a new laptop to break in.

Wish I could go back someday. I love the Northwest filk crowd.
We shall have a quiet weekend!!! The last one in a while. UK filk con is up next :)

My weekend? Wonderfully quiet. I might actually get a chance to catch up on some DVR'd shows and pleasure reading.

Hugs to everyone there, and sorry I couldn't manage it this year.

I have actual work to do, if I can get a space heater going in my study without tripping all the circuit breakers. Or learn to type with gloves on.

What lies. Seattle has more rain per capita than practically any other place in the US except maybe Portland OR. Doubt me? Think I'm wrong? Consider this, then; the Olympic Peninsula is the only temperate rain forest in the entire Northern hemisphere.

The forecast for the weekend is pretty soggy, too. What I thought was funny was driving through this overcast haze yesterday, which Jen described as "sunny", explaining that by comparison to normal it was sunny. Ooooooog.

My grandmother lived there for many years. According to my mother--who visited Gramma there once--you need good, rubber soled shoes as it can get slippery when it's wet. According to Dad, Mom slipped and luckily landed on her bottom. Be careful.

It's a relative thing. After about fifteen days of clouds, what is actually a standard-issue blue sky looks amazingly blue.

(After about thirty days, people tend to drag out the "What's that yellow thing?" jokes.)

Oh, man, I love Here Come the Brides.

The best thing about it is that Mark Lenard (Spock's dad) plays Aaron Stemple...the shows were both Desilu Productions on the air in 1968 & 69.

And the best thing about that is the infamous crossover fanfic (published by Pocket Press), Ishmael (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael_(Star_Trek)).

See you (at least) tomorrow night!

The Empire Builder. Pleasant trip -- the accessible sleeper was not only larger than a regular one, but apparently cheaper. Decent food -- I had Steaks On A Train! -- and the only real problem was the very small shower.

How's my weekend looking? Well, at least some of it's gonna be looking at YOU! There's a bunch of us out here badly in need of a filk fix...

I hear you about the small shower. You may want to do some comparison shopping on the way home. Some are smaller than others.

Did they have a wine tasting on the trip?

Indeed, a wine and cheese tasting. I did not partake -- I don't drink... wine. And I can get cheese from Zingerman's any time I want.

Wait, wait, wait... Mt. Ranier, Pad Thai, and Alexander James Adams? All in one weekend? Three things that can make me cry with "the world is too awesome" happiness, and you get them all in one weekend? I would be jealous, except that it really couldn't happen to a better guy. Hope you are enjoying it to the fullest. Have a fantastic Con. :)

Tom, as a Washingtonian in exile, I will tell you that THE MOUNTAIN only comes out to special people. Consider it very good omen for your weekend in "The Land that Nature Intended". If you get a chance, go to the zoo for the Jimi Hendrix statue and to the old Art Museum with the camels outside...and then to Ivar's for fish, Pike's Place market when they're throwing the fish, oh my, you'd need 6 months out there. (the underground Seattle tour is way cool too)

Breathe in the salt sea for me...

Well, considering that I too am at Conflikt, my weekend is pretty fam-dan-tastic. Plus I got to meet this guy I've only known through LJ yesterday.

The story is that Seattle got its reputation for lousy weather early on. The Denny party arrived at Alki Point (in what is now in southwest Seattle) in December 1851, and they didn't realize there was this big ol' mountain off to the southeast until May.
