PhilCon Today
Nov. 18th, 2006 09:08 amThe round robin went okay last night -- some fun songs, a lively audience. I passed on the open filk because I wanted to rest up for today. I've got a two-hour block of time in the Freedom Ballroom starting at 1:00, and the concert should go at least an hour and a half. I'm also going to do the halftime for the masquerade, which starts at 9:00; don't know exactly when I'll go on. After that, right up to the open filk in Seminar B. Sunday, Iron Filker at 1:00 in Salon 9.
Offf Topic: Variable Star
Date: 2006-11-18 05:15 pm (UTC)this is off topic, but I just wanted to share my feelings.
I just finished reading Spider Robinson's latest book Variable Star, based on notes left by Heinlein.
And it resonated so much with your "starlight & saxophone".
The Hero of the book is a sax player, who went on a starship on the way to establish a new colony, and left his girlfriend behind in the solar system.
I don't know if Spider has ever listened to your song, or was in anyway inspired by it (he doesn't mention it in the afterward, so I guess No), but WOW!
I loved that song long before I read this book, but now I love it even more, just because it makes me think of this book, and vice versa.
i'm still in the afterglow of the book and this wonderfull connection to the song, so I just wanted to say thank you for this song.
Sorry for being so emotional.
